Akash Ashok Kumar wins first Chennai Open title

Akash Ashok Kumar from Karnataka wins the Individual Open category title at the 1st Chennai Open Tenpin Bowling Championship held at Durai Pakkam Let’s Bowl on Dec-3, 2022 in Chennai.

Earlier in the day, the top four players in total pinballs from 8 games in the Master Round advanced to the Stepladder Round.

Akash Ashok Kumar from Karnataka, Dhruv Sarda from Delhi, Shabir Thankot from Tamil Nadu and Pratyek Sathya from Karnataka bagged the top 4 positions respectively.

In the first match of the stepladder round of the Open category in the Challenge the Leader format, third seed Shabbir Thankot defeated fourth seed Prateek Sathya (193–169 by pins) to advance to the next round.

In the second stepladder round, second seed Dhruv Sarda advanced to the final with a victory over Shabbir (235 – 213 on pins basis).

Top seed Akash Ashok Kumar took on No. 2 Dhruv Sarda in the final (289 222 pins) to win the Open category by 67 pins.

In the Doubles Open category, the Karnataka duo of Ashokumar and Kisan R also won the title by defeating the Karnataka duo of Pervez Ahmed and Salman Khan (871-855) by 16 pins. Umesh Kumar and Akramulla Baig, Parthiban J and Deepak Kothari Sabir bagged the 3rd and 4th positions.

The 12 players who qualified for the Master’s round clashed to decide the winner in a set of 8 matches in the qualifiers. In this, Akramulla Baig from Tamilnadu scored 1654 pins with an average of 206.75, beating Parthipan from Tamil Nadu who scored 1637 pins and an average of 204.63. Salman Khan from Karnataka secured 1582 pins and Anand Babu from Tamilnadu secured 1559 pins to secure 3rd and 4th position respectively.

Rajalakshmi College of Engineering Dean Mr. Philip and renowned music composer James Vasanthan participated in the program and distributed prizes to the winners.

75 bowlers from 10 states participated in this Open Championship.
