Films do champion social causes but such instances are only few and far!
Here is a classic example of a film that walks that extra mile to discuss, deliberate and debate on a social issue that involves the life of human beings!
It is but a fact that manual scavenging has been banned since long but the enforce3ment of that law only stands as a distant dream!
Cleaning of sewerage is another burning issue that ‘burns’ out the lives of many!
The film takes a look at those issues and tries to question the system asking as to why it is still in practice while other countries have shed that practice switching over to machines for that task!
Seasoned actress Rohini plays a Corporation worker who struggles to make ends meet while her son, a student, takes up the task of cleaning the sewerage tank during which time, he chokes to death!
The efforts of Rohini to seek justice is the crux of the plot who is assisted by Shraddha Srinath (of Nerkonda Paarvai fame) who is a resident of the flat complex where the incident had taken place.
Rohini takes the help of a communist who gets her introduced to a lawyer to fight her case!
How things take twist in the final bargain is the absorbing rest narrated in the best manner possible!
The lead artistes have performed well.
The courtroom sequences are thought provoking and the arguments of the counsels open the floodgates for a busload of unanswered questions with each of the authorities concerned passing the buck in a ceremonious manner! The history behind the usage of the word -passing the buck- has been interestingly presented at the Court, by the Judge himself!
The film raises a lot of pertinent points pertaining to human beings, that too, those belonging to a particular community, being asked to take up the task ; it also throws light the highhanded behavior of supervisors towards sweepers and how they are made to run from pillar to post to prove a point!
Specific references to a community and communistic ideals could have been toned down a bit!
A thought provoking movie that tugs at your heart even long after you leave the theatres…
