The film ‘Nedumi’ tells the life and pains of palm tree climbers!
The movie ‘Nedumi’ has recorded pains never seen on screen!
Even if there are tsunamis or storms, palm trees are the ones that overcome the obstacles and stand tall. There are lakhs of people in Tamil Nadu who depend on the palm tree which is the pride of Thirukkural. There are lakhs of families, especially those engaged in the business of unloading palm wine. But due to the ban on poaching, the families have lost their livelihood. Their pains and cries of grief were lost in the air without reaching the masses. ‘Nedumi’ is a film that takes one family as a representative of those lakhs of families who are bearing their unspeakable sorrow and talks about their life.
Just like Jallikattu was formed as a movement to save the bulls, it is the duty of the people to unite to save the palm trees which stand as a living witness in front of our eyes as a continuation of our primitive culture. This film insists by saying without saying the idea that we should protect the palm trees that are fruitful like a palm tree by standing as border guards.
The film is written by Nanda Laxman. He has already directed music albums and short films, although he has no experience of working in films, he has learned screen techniques by taking lessons from the films he has seen.
Nedumi has created a movie by mixing the screen technique with the story and life that he saw in front of his eyes.
The film is produced by Harishwar Productions. Produced by Velmurugan.
The film has Pradeep Selvaraj as the hero and Abhinaya as the heroine. Both of them have changed and lived as that character. Along with them, director AR Rajesh has played an important role. Apart from them, Preeti Ramesh, Vasu, Kishore Mani, child stars Sarathraj, Ramki have acted. Assistant director Dinesh David and Muralitharan Venkatesan also acted. Rajasimman, who played the villain in Kuttip Puli, is playing an important role.
When he decided to film a good story from the lives of people who stand as witnesses to the impact of the storm, he did not look for big actors. Not looking for grandeur. When I was looking for a good producer with the aim of recording a natural story, Velmurugan, the uncle of the director’s friend, came forward to produce the film. The film is made on a modest budget.
During the time of Corona, the story was created and polished and the shooting was completed in 28 days.
Director Nanda Lakshman hails from Palakkadu near Marakkanam in Villupuram district. Pudupakkam, a village close to that town, was suitable for the story, so they completed the entire film there.
How was the life of palm tree climbers? What are their pains? What are the benefits of palm trees? This story has been created to show all that.
Jazz has composed the music for this film.
Cinematography by Vishwa Madhi. Art direction and make-up like TV. Vasanthan has noticed. Working side by side with the director as assistant directors are A.R. Rajesh, Dinesh David, Muralitharan Venkatesan etc
Ram. Saravanan is the editor.
Speaking about the film, director Nanda Laxman said,
“10 lakh families who used to depend on palm trees for their livelihood are now in great difficulty and are living with unspeakable sadness in their hearts.
They have lost their livelihood due to the government’s anti-death penalty law. But their pain is sleeping silently inside them. This is an attempt to record that pain in a film. I hope you are satisfied.
We screened this film ten times to friends. Although many people criticized the film and gave different opinions, 80% people appreciated that the film has a liveliness. That appreciation is the force that drives us forward. Although many said that it could have been made with a bigger cast and could have been made bigger and bigger, everyone agreed that the liveliness was there. This gave us a lot of confidence. Is that confidence necessary for a film?
We have made this film as a team effort of many young people who have dreams of cinema. We have worked with dedication as a team to the extent that no individual has any claim in this and we hope that it will yield good results,” says the director.
‘Nedumi’ is an action-reaction-genius release on screens worldwide soon…
