There are two ways of presenting a thematic idea on the big screen while a filmmaker takes up the task of deliberating on a delicate theme that upgrades a particular group (women) and degrades the counterparts (males)

The Great Indian Kitchen which was made in Malayalam in 2021 takes a new avatar in Tamil now carrying the same title!

The plot has been set around a female protagonist (Aishwarya Rajesh) who walks into a new home, that of her husband’s, soon after they unite in wedlock!

It is only a small family comprising of the the newly married son and his parents with the girl in question coming in to settle down!

The customary practices that are in vogue in that household irk the new bride who patiently tolerates all till she reaches her breaking point and bursts out!
She goes on to pursue her passion which is running a dance school and the curtains are drawn down!

For most part of the proceedings, men in that household are showcased as being dominant and keep thrusting their methodologies onto her, thereby pushing her to the brink before she bursts and walks out!

Even Yogi Babu who generally makes cameo appearance in such films, is shown in that light only!

Maybe, such things existed in the past wherein women folk were suppressed, ill-treated and exploited but does such a situation exist anymore in the society, that too to such an extent is a question that could possibly be posed here!

Humor courses through the proceedings but does not create much of an impact as the objectivity of making such a film stands and shows itself in capital letters!

Performance-wise, Aishwarya Rajesh tops the casting chart!

There is one male character in the film that is shown in different light-the heroine’s friend’s husband who makes coffee for his wife and even asks her how is it!

So much for women empowerment!
