Come December and the city of Chennai gets ready to witness the Chennai International Film Festival!
The 54th IFFI (International Film Festival of India) having been wrapped at Goa the Chennai Intewrnational Film Festival of India has been scheduled to be held at Chennai in select cinemas from the 14th to the 21st of December 2023.
Organized by the ICAF (Indo Cine Appreciation Forum) with association with PVR INOX, this year’s Film Festival is expected to showcase about 126 films from 57 countries.
This year, a new category of Competition for Global Cinema, seems to be a value-addition and 12 films have been shortlisted, the entries are from Vietnam, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Tajikistan, Panama, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Reunion, Uruuguay, Macedonia, Tibet and UAE.
Another noteworthy feature is the fact that this year’s line up of films will include those films in the Oscar List, those from Cannes, especially the winners as well as Golden Bear Nominees!
The Indian Panorama Section will showcase 19 films, 2018:Everyone Is A Hero (Malayalam) which is the country’s official entry to Oscars, 2024!
Korea is the Country of Focus in the Country Focus Section and the films that have been scheduled for screening are-
The Thieves, My Paparotti, How to Steal A Dog and Little Forest
The 12 Tamil films in the Indian Panorama Section are-
Aneethi, Ayothi, Karumegangal Kalaikindrana, Maamannan, Por Thozhil, Raavana Kottam, Saayavanam, Sembi, Start Camera Action Udanpaal, Vidhuthalai : Part 1 and Vindhya, Victim Verdict V3
The films finding place in the Oscar Race List are –
The Teachers’ Lounge, Perfect Days, Do Not Expect Too Much From the End of the World, Fallen Leaves, Sweet Dreams, Melody and Inshallah A Boy
The Cannes Winners are as follows…Anatomy of a Fall, Have to Have Sex, Perfect Days, A Brighter Tomorrow, Club Zero and Kidnapped.
As the count down has already started, one can certainly expect a feast of films to be watched, relished and cherished at this CIFF scheduled to be held for 8 days in a row!
