A few years ago, the film ‘Vengayam’ starring Sathyaraj in the lead role was critically acclaimed. Directed by Sangakiri Rachkumar, the film featured street art. Coming to the film industry from a traditional street artist family, director Sangakiri Rachkumar emphasized the life of street artists. And it was refined and performed for the first time in front of the Angkor Wat temple in Cambodia, and the program was well received.
However, the director Sangakiri Rachkumar wanted this art to spread among the Tamils living in the whole world rather than being an art performed only in temple festivals. In this way, director Sangakiri Rachkumar, who planned to hold a grand street fair to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the Tamil Nadu Foundation and bring it to the attention of the world, is achieving it.
Yes.. Last May 25, Sangakiri Rachkumar has achieved the world’s attention by conducting a huge street dance with 4500 spectators at the Roseman Theater in Chicago, one of the top 10 theaters in the United States.
Regarding this, Sangakiri Rachkumar says, “With the aim of improving street art, I planned to train about 300 Tamils living in the United States in the art of street art in the city of Chicago, and to hold them and bring that gigantic street art to the attention of the world.
With the support of Tamil Nadu Trustees including Veera Venugopal, Siva Moopanar, Rajendran Gangatharan, Anbu Madankumar, and Pradeep Mohan, the best Tamils living here in the US who are interested in street art were selected and trained through auditions.
I wrote the story of Vallall Athiyaman in the form of street art and staged the scenes in order to praise the gift. The Tamils living there were unexpectedly eager to feel the glory of street art. They got training by choosing what they liked like song, dance, music.
This event, led by actor Napoleon, is a rare event that has never happened in a foreign country, so it is included in the Guinness Book of World Records. I am happy to think that through this I have given a boost to street art.
