Produced by Studio Green and Neelam Productions, directed by Pa. Ranjith and starring Chiyaan Vikram, ‘Thangalaan’ released on 15th August in thousands of screens across the world in Tamil and Telugu languages… has become a huge box office and critical success. The team of the film organized a function to thank the fans and the media for the support and love given to the film Thangalaan, which continues to be a hit in the theaters.
Producer Neha Gnanavel Raja, Studio Green CEO Dhananjayan, actor Vikram, director Pa. Ranjith and Film crew including Ranjith and distributor Sakthivelan were present.
Speaking on the occasion, producer Neha Gnanavel Raja said, “’Thangalaan’ is a golden success. On behalf of producer Gnanavel Raja, I would like to thank the media and fans for making this a success. I would like to thank all the technicians and actors including Ranjith – Vikram – GV Prakash Kumar -. The film was also a huge commercial success. The film Thangalaan is also a hit in Telugu. It has been released in more theaters there now.
Narrator and writer Ashaya Periyavan said, “Working in Thangalaan… was a thrilling experience for me. But Ranjith has won by swimming in hate. I have never seen any movies so far that have such intriguing reviews, debates and opinions. This is a unique piece of work. When I visited the set, all the actors working there were wonderful people. Especially Vikram has put in a lot of hard work in this film. I would like to thank everyone from the bottom of my heart.
Distributor Shakti Velan said, “During the shooting of Thangalaan, it was a tough time for producer Gnanavel Raja. However, the actors and actresses who worked in the film put too much faith in the technicians and produced this film on a grand scale.

I don’t understand why a creator.. a film director.. has so much love.. love.. Why do they celebrate me so much? Why are they supporting me not only from Tamil Nadu but also from Andhra Pradesh?. Why are they celebrating me even from North Indian states including Maharashtra and Delhi where no film has been released yet?
The only answer to this is… the ideas I speak through the works are considered prima facie. observed. And the artistry in it is what makes it noticeable. If we don’t have uniqueness in what we do… no one will respect us. The concept that I am talking about in my films… the thought that is featured… the love that I share with the people for the people… there are lakhs of people who understand this right. I have no worries about this. This is what gave success to the movie Thangalaan. And it has given me great excitement.
There was a big discussion with the writer Ashaya Periyavan, who worked with me on this film. Some of the things he mentions are emotional. But I personally thought about how to frame it in the script. The related journey lingered in me. It was a very lonely journey. I think everything runs from that.
Tamil Prabha also worked on this matter by understanding my frequency correctly. He wrote the verses written by the beautiful Periyavan in his own vernacular dialect. I think it’s this subtle work of his… i.e. the diction of the characters that makes this film come alive.
This film will be treasured through time. I think it has all the ingredients for that.
GV Prakash was one of the trio who contributed to the success of this film. His work was amazing. In all the reviews of the film, Jeevi’s name was always included. I would like to take this moment to thank him and the team that worked with him.
The second person is Gnanavel Raja. My screen journey would have been very difficult if I had not met him. He is the one who made my screen journey easy and smooth. To him I am forever
I am indebted to you. After the release of Attakkatthi, I signed two films with the company. One of them is ‘Madras’. Another is ‘Thangalaan’. I had hope that he will release this film on a big scale. I thank him for making it possible today. Even now he’s on the phone saying, ‘Be ready. Soon to work in a huge commercial film with the biggest leading star. I believe in your hard work. I am your fan’ he said with confidence.
Vikram sir is the most important reason for the success of this movie… to this extent… he has attracted fans and people inside the theatres.
The mystery that I still don’t understand is why he trusted me so far..? This also scared me. With so many directors…so many hits…so many characters…so many fans…why does he have to work so hard? As I have thought. Why did he choose such a character? What is his need and need for this? I did not understand, so I asked him directly.
Tasting so much success… what motivates you to work so hard? Why choose such characters? Star actors like you act from their comfort zone.
It was only after that that I understood. It is understood that the reason is the great love he has for his fans and cinema. I see it as his relentless fighting spirit. That is why he is an aspiring actor who has been searching for characters with multiple evolutions. Fueling his performance is a big challenge. I feel Tangalan provides the right fodder for his performance. It was my pleasure to work with such a talented actor. I consider working with him an experience and a lesson. I hope traveling with him will help me to make better pictures. I don’t know how I am going to repay him for the great thing he has done for me. However, I would like to thank him once.”
Actor Vikram said, “Happy Raksha Bandhan everyone. I am very happy. When this film starts.. a story like this. Such a people. Such is life. During that period, people are looking for gold after facing so many hardships.. tribulations.. challenges.. Despite everything they get gold. A thing that was out of reach…a thing that was not easily available…had to be bought with difficulty. Our journey for this film was like this. We all worked hard on the film. No one has acted in this film. They have come as that character. If all of us acted, the real hardship of those people would not have been understood. As people lived in that period.. we too have changed. Not only me but the entire Tangalan family… suffered. We finally found the gold for it all. That is the success of this film. We all have to thank the fans and the media for this.
Ranjith met me and asked me to do something different while telling the story. He said he would have to remove some hair from his head first. After that he said he should shave half of his head. Then after some time he said you have to build kovanam.
None of the leading star actors would agree to this. They think a lot. When I heard this, I was excited. On the other hand, there was a fear in me. On the other hand, there was an awe of what it would be like if only this was done correctly. But since Ranji asked for this… I agreed. I am also ready to play Adam if he asks.
But there are some directors I can trust and work with. Directors are what made me.
On the first day on the set, I felt a little shy while acting with a gowanam on the set. But as the days went by, we became that character and went into the life of those people. It was Ranjith who performed this magic. To tell you the truth, I could never have played this role if it wasn’t for Ranjith. We have to thank Ranjith for giving us such a challenging role.
As the distributor Sakthivelan said, you can act in popular commercial films. But with a multi-layered character like this, it is not an easy task to make it popular and reach the masses.

A friendship with the directors and cinema past continues till now. It was my wish to act in Ranjith’s film since Madras and it has been fulfilled in this film. I thank him once again for giving me Thangalaan.
I have struggled in many films before. But there was a truth in the movie Tangalan. Ranjith’s deep thought was revealed in it. This is no ordinary film. Many things are discussed in this film. Ranjith makes everyone who watches the film think…

If I agree to act in a film, two years will pass for that film. My fans always keep telling me that I should act in many films. I agreed to act in three films simultaneously for my fans namely ‘Mahaan’, ‘Cobra’ and ‘Ponniyin Selvan’. Same bad hair style in every movie. But what was the challenge for me in that.. I had to play different roles in three films in the same movie. This challenge was my favorite.
Some films do not get the expected success in some time. We don’t know why. But I acted well in some of the scenes in those films. The film was not successful and did not reach the masses. So when this film became a success, the fans feel the hardship we went through for it and appreciate it.
‘Mahaan’ movie released on digital platform. I was happy to witness the fan base in Andhra Pradesh.
