Ranjith, Mari Selvaraj has risen to the level of a producer while continuing to cast his eyes on themes that are caste based, just toeing the line of his mentor! This is an account blended with fact and fiction while the title states that the film is based on true events.Evidently, the screenplay reflects the life and times of the maker ‘s childhood brilliantly supported by the eye catching visuals of Theni Eswar and the mesmerizing music of Santhosh Narayanan. The narration is set around the protagonist and his close friend both of whom are full of pranks. While one has an obsession for his teacher, the second one walks along. The boy has a widowed mom and a sister. The film is heavily punctuated by the local slang and the dialogue delivery of the entire cast is so natural and thoroughly enjoyable! The second half paves way for pathos and pain as the lorry carrying the workers whose task is to pluck unripe plantains and load them for marketing purposes. The elaborate detailing of the process cutting and carrying plantains by men, women and children deserves praise. The climax sequences are sure to melt the hearts of the viewers…
