The Madras High Court has lifted the interim ban on re-release of the film Guna.

The movie Guna was released in 1991 starring actor Kamal Haasan. It was announced that the film will be re-released in theaters on June 21.

In this context, Ganshyam Hemdev had filed a case in the Madras High Court seeking a ban on the re-release of Guna, claiming that he had acquired the copyright of the film.
The court heard the case and ordered Piramidu and Evergreen media companies to respond by imposing an interim ban on the re-release of Guna.
When this case came up for hearing in the session of Justice Senthil Kumar Ramamurthy, Vijayan Subramanian appeared on behalf of Pyramid and Evergreen Media Company and the copyright period of Guna film was given only for 5 years.
As the period has expired from 2008 to 2013, Ganshyam Hemdev said that Guna cannot claim the publishing rights in the film. Also, Guna argued that the ban on the film’s re-release should be lifted as Pyramid and Evergreen Media held the rights to the film’s theatrical release.
Accepting this, the judge lifted the interim ban on re-release of the film Guna. He also appointed a lawyer in this matter and ordered the credit of Guna’s re-release theater collection in the name of the case and adjourned the case for 2 weeks.
