Films focusing on such content without any commercial compromises are certainly a rarity these days and this flick is a true presentation based on true incidents, that tugs your heart strings even long after you exit the cinema hall!
Well conceived, crafted and executed, the film showcases stellar performances from the principal cast – the two daughters and their mom and of course, R. S. Karthik, who plays a performing artist in a drama troupe!
Malar(Manishajith) who lives with her parents and younger sister, Kayal (Durga), is yet to attain age while her younger sibling does.
It is a closely knit village and the entire neighborhood sympathizes with Malar while acknowledging the innocence of Kayal.
In order to fasten the process, they even take to a native priest in the nearby locality who gives her native medicines for 48 days…
Gomathi (Elizabeth) their mom, showers limitless affection on both her daughters.
Waiting on her wings, Malar earnestly looks forward…
Meantime, the village temple festival comes up and a performing music/drama troupe arrives there to stage the play of Kathavaraayan.
The main actor (R. S. Karthik) who plays the lead role is the one who had already appeared in Malar ‘ s dreams! The same was the case for him too as he too had seen her in his dreams!
When all appears well and fine, trouble springs up in the form of Gomathi’ s brother (Marimuthu) who is desirous of getting his son married to Kayal as Malar is only a foster daughter of the family!
To clear the path, he gets Malar killed but not before killing the hero who tries to prevent him from the heinous act!.
Elizabeth as the mom looks tailor made for the part while both Manishajith and Durga have done their characters with understanding.
Manishajith has more footage in the proceedings and she has rightly cashed it in!
Elizabeth stands tall in performance in the scene wherein her elder daughter joins her to watch the play after having said no, initially.

Shiva Shankar Master as the owner of the performing troupe, impresses with his body language!
Selvanambi’ s musical score deserves mention..
Jai Shankar Ramalingam has captured the scenic beauty of the rural backdrop quite effectively.
A movie that is worth taking a look …
