The Danish Girl (2015) featuring Eddie Redmayne in the title of a classic that deliberated on the transition of a man into woman and how his(her) as well as the society’s perception of it!
Neela Nira Sooriyan is one such discerning tale that talks about the process of transition of a man into woman which according to the person concerned is just a gender-change after going through the formalities!
The person doesn’t want to be addressed as a transgender but only a woman!
Samyuktha Vijayan who has scripted and helmed the flick plays the protagonist recording a riveting performance!
Haritha playing a sports teacher had executed herself effectively as the only person on the crowd to understand Aravind alias Bhanu’ s feelings.
The screenplay moves about steadily, enumerating the steps involved in the transition in the first half while the second half talks about the challenges that the individual has to face – at home, at workplace as well as from the point of view of the society.
The film raises a bus load pertinent points with reference to such individuals and shares a few thoughts as to how the society has to treat such individuals.
A laudable attempt by Samyukta Vijayan.
Kudos to her.
It is worth mentioning that the film has won recognition at innumerable Film Festivals which it rightly deserves!
