Raj Gauthaman, an incomparable scholar of the Tamil community, passed away is an irreparable loss. He used the modern method in all his research, fiction, translation and criticism and introduced Tamil. He was the primary face of Dalit critical methodology when it was developed. He wrote to understand the history of the people and to establish their politics based on all that he had learned, without establishing himself by learned doctrines. He considered the word ‘Dalit’ not as a sign of birth but as a characteristic, and said it was the anti-authoritarian mentality that had emerged throughout history.
He wrote that fiction and politics are not different. Although he used this method to study Sangam literature up to contemporary literature, he reinterpreted them taking into account the techniques of creative character.
A writer who was a pioneer for each of us as creativity, research and politics are not different, Mr. Raj Gauthaman can remain in the history of Tamil knowledge forever. My deepest condolences to his bereaved family.
In recognition of his contribution to Tamil literature and the world of studies, I request the Government of Tamil Nadu to pay tribute to him with state honors. @CMOTamilnadu @Neelam_Culture @NeelamSocial @NeelamPublicat1
