Tamil Film “Tractor” to be Screened in the World Cinema Section of the 22nd Chennai International Film Festival
The Tamil film Tractor, produced by Jayanthan under the banner of Friday Entertainment (France)—a company that also distributes global films like Jailer, Jawan, Leo, Ayalaan, Goat, Kalki, and Pushpa 2 in France—will be screened in the World Cinema section of the 22nd Chennai International Film Festival.
Directed by Ramesh Yanthra, Tractor had its World Premiere last October in the New Directors’ category at the 48th São Paulo International Film Festival in Brazil.
The film marks Ramesh Yanthra’s debut as a feature film director. Known for his acclaimed documentaries Gudiyam Caves and The Father of Indian Prehistory, Yanthra is a former postgraduate student of the College of Fine Arts, Chennai, and previously worked in the IT industry.
This movie, which has yet to be screened anywhere else in Asia, will be shown on December 14th at 11:30 AM at PVR Sathyam Cinemas as part of the festival.
Tractor sheds light on the exploitation of farmers’ lack of education and the deceptive practices of private companies that promise high profits with minimal investment. It portrays the destructive impact of corporate agendas on traditional farming practices.
Jayanthan, making his debut as a film producer, has crafted this project to resonate with contemporary issues and raise awareness of the plight of farmers.
The cast features newcomers, with Prabhakaran Jayaraman and Swetha Prathap playing the lead roles, both from the IT industry.
Supporting actors include the late Pillaiyarpatti Jayalakshmi, Child artist Govarthan, and director Ram Siva.
The film boasts a skilled technical team, including Gautham Muthusamy as the cinematographer, R. Sudharsan as the editor, Rajesh Sasindran for sound design, and renowned art director T. Muthuraj for production design. Rehks has handled subtitles, and Bhuvan Selvaraj manages public relations for the film.
With Tractor, the filmmakers aim to amplify the voices of farmers and expose how modern corporate practices are dismantling traditional agricultural systems.
The film is slated for a theatrical release soon, aiming to spark public discourse on these critical issues.
