Actor Karthi Uzhavan Foundation’s “Uzhavar Virudhugal 2025’ held in grandeur
‘Uzhavar Virudhugal 2025’ (Farmers Awards 2025) – An initiative by Uzhavan Foundation to honour and recognise the achievements of individuals excelling in agriculture and their supporters, was held in Chennai. The event witnessed the presence of well-esteemed guests including actor Arvind Swami, actress Saranya Ponvannan, director Mari Selvaraj, and Bava Chellathurai. In addition, the presence of many agricultural experts and students furthermore embellished the occasion.
During the occasion, the following recipients were honoured with awards and prize money.
Ms. Suganthika won the award for Outstanding Female Agricultural Entrepreneur.
Ms. Shyamala was honoured for her significant contributions to restoring water bodies.
Kalasapakkam Traditional Seed Center won the Honours of Best Award for Exceptional Agricultural Contribution.
Dr. Vijayakumar was awarded for his colossal contribution to the livestock sector.
The award for Best Women’s Agricultural Cooperative is bestowed upon the Nammazhvar Natural Minor Millets Farmers Producer Group.
As a token of elevating the gesture of appreciation, the recipients were each gifted Rs. 2 Lakh along with the honours. It is noteworthy that last year, the winners were felicitated with a sum of Rs.1 Lakh.
Actor Karthi, Founder of the Uzhavan Foundation, said, “We have been curiously waiting for this event for the whole year, and we are getting more recognition. Individuals striving to help others, especially in the field of agriculture, truly deserve acknowledgement. Unfortunately, most of them don’t seek such recognition, and others go unnoticed despite their earnest and soulful contributions. Such individuals with beautiful hearts must be acknowledged and honoured.
Such deeds will definitely inspire others, and motivate them to do the same. When it comes to witnessing the deplorable condition of agriculture, I have experienced it in my own native village, where I grew up. During the filming of ‘Kadaikutty Singam’, I was hit by the reality check and felt that agriculture must be encouraged and the ones involved in it need to be motivated. While I may not be able to engage in farming myself, I can certainly motivate those who do. I believe it is essential to stand in harmony with farmers, and I encourage everyone to do the same.
I believe that these activities should not be confined to the harvest Pongal festival; rather, they should be embraced as a regular part of our traditions and lifestyles. This commitment will enhance our cultural practices and strengthen our community throughout the year. The tradition of ‘Cook Your Food’ has been now replaced by ‘Book Your Food’. With our shopping experience ending under a single hub of supermarkets, we remain unaware of its origin and manufacturers. Furthermore, the trend of delivering food to our homes has completely barricaded the situation to give thoughts towards the manufacturers. It’s essential that we continuously engage in discussions about agriculture and the benefits of organic farming..”
Actress Saranya Ponvannan said, “Actor Karthi’s gesture is commendable. Everyone among us has the habit of setting up a garden and boasting about it with many. But such a humble gesture of honouring the valuable deeds of agriculture and farming is truly remarkable. Such an initiative will significantly have a positive impact on many individuals, who will start practising this culture. Such an initiative represents a significant contribution to the community, and the thought of being involved in such a meaningful service fills me with pride.”
Actor Arvind Swami said, “I spent my early days till the age of 15 with my parents in a farmhouse at Nazrethpet. While travelling through that area to reach here rekindled those beautiful memories.”
Director Mari Selvaraj said, “Until now, all the stages in events have been designed to elevate us as we walk upwards. However, this particular platform helps us understand who we are, where we come from, and what our roots are. It was only after arriving here that I truly grasped the many facets of agriculture. This insight has been incredibly surprising for me.”
Now the grand award ceremony is all set to reach more eyes and ears. The function will be telecasted in Star Vijay TV on the auspicious Pongal day, January 14th, from 11.30AM to 12.30PM.
