Actress Rohini said, “The first reason for making this film is why this film is ‘not worth it’. When I said, ‘Make this film in Malayalam’, a director brought this film saying, ‘No, I have faith in my Tamil audience’. He thought about where to start the conversation about this and wrote it very wonderfully, starting with the family. After I started acting as a character actress, I have never acted in such a shady character. I thought that I could do this Lakshmi character properly. The director asked Lakshmi to ask all the questions that there are in this society through Lakshmi. I come in this film as the face of the society. That was very challenging. Along with that, Lakshmi also had the compassion of a very loving mother. I have played many mother roles. Every mother I play in Witness, Dhandatti, 3 is a different mother. Whenever a director asks me to play the hero’s mother, I ask, ‘There is no one character who plays the mother. Who is the hero’s mother? Is it the angry one? Is it the one who has come through hardship? Or is it the one who speaks arrogantly? Does anything happen in the story because of them?’ I am satisfied that I have played very well only in a few films. This Lakshmi character is one of them. This is our story. A mother-daughter story. This film, despite the politics it talks about, will engage you. We can make good films like Malayalam films here too, and we have to prove that the Tamil audience is ready to support it.
