Hyderabad, India – 11 October 2022 – Prime Video today launched the trailer of its highly anticipated upcoming Telugu Amazon Original movie Ammu. The trailer gives a glimpse into the life of the titular character, played by Aishwarya Lakshmi, depicting the woman’s journey like a phoenix rising from the ashes when what was supposed to be her blissful marriage turns into a tragedy. Produced by Kalyan Subramanian and Karthikeyan Santhanam of Stone Bench Films, Ammu, written and directed by Sarukesh Shekhar and produced by ace filmmaker Karthik Subbaraj Creative, is slated to release on Prime Video from October 19.

The film revolves around Ammu, who thinks that marriage will be like a fairy tale, full of love and magic. Everything changes when her cop-husband Ravi (Naveen Chandra) beats her for the first time. What Ammu thought was a one-time incident turned into a never-ending cycle of violence that trapped her and broke her soul and spirit. Pushed to her limits, Ammu breaks free with an unlikely partner (Simha).

Prime members in 240+ countries and regions around the world can stream Ammu in Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam and Hindi dubbing along with Telugu.

“Ammu is very close to my heart. Ammu’s cinematic journey as she learns to take a stand against her oppressor will thrill and move audiences with its revelatory and relatable drama,” said writer-director Sarukesh Shekhar. “We could not have achieved this without the amazing performances of Aishwarya, Naveen and Simha. I would like to thank Karthik Subbaraj, Stone Bench and the Prime Video team for believing in me and my team.”

Producer Kalyan Subramanian said, “This is Stone Bench’s second film in association with Prime Video after Putham Puduk Kalan and we couldn’t have asked for a better story. We always produce engaging but good story feature stories and Ammu falls into both categories. Now, as Ammu is ready for release, we are excited to bring our labor of love to audiences around the world on Prime Video.”

Actress Aishwarya Lakshmi says, “Ammu at its core is a story of empowerment. “Portraying the role of a woman trapped in an abusive relationship was challenging and personally empowering for me. Ammu as a woman has a lot to relate to, the most important of which is always speaking one’s truth and standing up for one’s self. Karthik Subbaraj, Stone Bench, Director Sarukesh Shekhar, my colleague I am grateful to actors Naveen and Simha and the team at Prime Video for their constant support and am excited to see the audience reaction to Ammu.
