The director known for his knack of dishing out movies the narration of which are set around natural backdrops and hilly terrains, takes the audience on one such noteworthy journey into the lovely, picturesque locales of the Princess of Hills, that is, Kodaikanal, focusing on the life of Veerayi (Kovai Sarala, brilliant portayal after having acted in over 750 movies!) and her granddaughter, Sembi (Nila), the former etching out a meagre living by extracting honey from honeycomb! Miss not the scene where the grandmother shares the secret of doing it, to her granddaughter!
Their peaceful lives gets disturbed when three rich miscreants enter into their arena and shatter their dreams!
Veerayi’s efforts to seek justice get nipped in the bud owing to political and eventually intervention!
After doing away with a cop who causes trouble, the duo board a bus and flee.
Whether the passengers in the bus help her to get justice is the rest.
The film opens on a good note and establishes the two characters quite well but soon after the screenplay slows down, especially in the second half, never to return to its original pace; but all the same, the breathtaking cinematography of Jeevan and the apt background score of Nivas K. Prassana elevate the quality of the proceedings.
A disturbing movie that tugs at your heartstrings !
