The teaser launch of the film Bad Girl, produced by Anurag Keshyap and Vetrimaaran under the banner of Cross Root Film Company, starring Anjali Sivaraman, Shanthi Priya, Hridhu Harun, ‘TeeJay’ Arunachalam and Saranya Ravichandran, and directed by Vetrimaaran’s assistant director Varsha Bharath, was held at the Sathyaman Cinema in Chennai today (26.1.2025).
The teaser launch was graced by the film’s producers Vetrimaaran and Anurag Keshyap, actors Anjali Sivaraman Shanthi Priya, Hridhu Harun, film editor Radha Sridhar and special guests Kalaipuli S Thanu, director Mysskin and actress Taapsee Pannu.
After watching the teaser of this film Bad Girl, which focuses on the life of a woman, all the guests shared their views.
Talking about this film as a producer, Vetrimaaran said,
In the stories that come to Grassroot Film Company,
I used to share any story that seemed different with Anurag Keshyap. While sharing this story, we both had the idea of making it together. It was postponed for some other reasons. But during the shooting of Viduthalai 2, Anurag, who saw the first half of this film, praised the film very much and said that I would produce this film myself. So this is the first Tamil film that Anurag Keshyap will produce. Also, Anurag Keshyap said that he would contact Amit Trivedi himself for the music of this film and brought Amit Trivedi to compose the music of this film. So this is the first film for Amit Trivedi. Also, Tamil films are given a lot of importance at the Rotterdam Film Festival. It is unique that the film Bad Girl by Varsha Bharat, the first female director, is also included in the main section, the Tiger Competition section. He said that Grassroot Film Company is organizing this event on a grand scale because of such ‘firsts’.

Director Varsha Bharath came and shot many scenes. Every time we got one version ready, we worked alternately to make the other version better than it. We are still working hard to make an even better version. She said that I learned a lot from director Varsha while editing this film.
While speaking, veteran actress Shanthi Priya,
Thank you for making people remember me through the song “Shenbhagame Shenbhagame”. Now they will remember me again through the film ‘Bad Girl’. While I was waiting for my comeback in cinema, I received a call from casting director Varsha, “When Vetrimaaran sir said that I should act in the film, I immediately agreed.” But when they said that I have to act without makeup throughout the film, can I send just one photo? I was shocked for a minute, then I took just one photo in Sunlight and sent it. Then after director Varsha Bharat finished telling this story, I told her, “The red carpet is waiting for you as soon as this film is released.” Because this film emphatically tells such a story. In particular, this story can relate to many events, such as the relationship between me and my parents and the relationship between me and my son.” She said that once the film is released, this story will be relatable to most women’s lives.

When the director told me this story, I felt that there was a realness to it. Also, the character of Ramya in this story seemed to reflect my real-life character. For the first time, I was a little hesitant when I said, ‘A whole story moves around me’, but the faith that Vetrimaaran sir and Varsha Bharath had in me has given life to this character. I am grateful for the faith they have in me,’ she said.
When director Mysskin spoke about this film,
I saw the trailer of this film and it was very good. When I saw what kind of personality Varsha Bharath is, I said, “I worked as an assistant to a big personality like Vetrimaaran for about two years. “When you watch the trailer of this film, Varsha Bharat appears as a person who loves cinema as a life, learns it from every place, and respects her guru, without saying that she has made a film.” Usually, it is very difficult to take close-up shots, but when you watch this trailer, there are a lot of close-up shots. The heroine Anjali Sivaraman’s eyes are beautiful. This kind of film should come to the cinema. Because a female-oriented psychological film called Bad Girl cannot be made by a male director, only a feminist director can make it. And this kind of story

In 15 years, Vetrimaaran sir has invited me as a special guest for this film. I always think, why do films about men always come? Why don’t films about women get big? When director and actor Anurag Keshyap spoke about this film,
Vetrimaaran told the story of this film only during the shooting of Viduthalai. When I watched the first half of the film, I was amazed. Usually when I see the story of a film, I feel like anyone can make it, but when I see this film, I feel like only director Varsha Bharath can make it like this. Also, it was as if this film was made for men to understand how the world is for women. He said, “I wish this film all the best for its success.”

Usually, we would keep telling Vetrimaaran sir about some idea. After listening to it, he would keep giving feedback that this story will be successful or not! It will come as a film or not. That’s how he told the story of this film, he said that it will come as a film. That’s how the story of “Bad Girl” came about.
In our Tamil cinema, women have been shown in many ways, such as mother, god, goddess. But this Bad Girl is a story that can tell what a woman thinks, what her true feelings are. He said that this film says that women should not be seen as saints, but as human beings.
When director Vetrimaaran talked about this film at the end of the ceremony,
Even though I knew this story before, we joined this film for the last time. Whenever I go to the shooting of this film, I met Shanthi Priya madam for the first time. Then she said, “Sir. This film will be a hit at all the festivals, sir. It will also get the National Award, sir.” Then I said to Varsha, “The people acting in your film have more faith in this film than you. So will you take this film well?” Varsha has also given 100% more than the commitment she gave me. Moreover, this film will make Gross Root Film Company proud.
