Agaram Foundation’s New Office Inauguration
The new office of the Agaram Foundation, located at Arulambal Street, Thyagaraya Nagar, Chennai, was inaugurated on Sunday, February 16, 2025. The event was attended by film stars Sivakumar, Suriya, Karthi and Jyothika. Suriya and Karthi’s mother Lakshmi inaugurated the building.
Speaking at the building inauguration, Suriya, founder of the Agaram Foundation, said, “It feels like we have just started. Looking back, we have come 20 years since 2006. The Akaram journey began in a small room of 10 X 10 in 2006. We started the seed project in 2010. We wanted to educate a hundred students, but even then, ten thousand applications were received. After 15 years, today we are educating 700 students. Even now, ten thousand applications are coming. Even though it started in 2006, the need has not changed even in 2025. A lot of love is still needed. Support is needed. Especially, volunteers who can give their time are needed.
The opening of a unique office building for the Agaram Foundation is a fulfilling matter. This building will serve as an inspiration to continue carrying out educational work. So many lessons and experiences in 20 years. The life of every child is such an experience. It is my dream and desire to create a place for these children, for their progress. I am happy to be able to do it. It will bring together not only students and volunteers, but also good minds and good thinking people. I firmly believe that this place will be the place for that.
The people who are the source of the Agaram journey are volunteers, educational institutions and donors. I am obliged to thank everyone at every moment. Without you, this journey would not have been possible. Agaram continues to take on all the tasks and alumni keep coming.
The Seed Project has been able to support 5800 children in college education. 70% of them are girls. In all these families, we have been able to create a positive change in the community. Moreover, through our school project in the Jawvadu hills, we have been working on the continuation of education of 6,000 hill people in the last two years. We are all like-minded people, broad thinkers, creative activists, and organizations who want to create a progressive society. Agaram is ready to work with everyone who wants to build a progressive society. As part of that, a training workshop, book launch and reading events have been held at the inauguration of this building. Daily free English classes and intellectual events are also planned here. Not only Agaram students but also the public can register in advance and participate in these events. You can participate with the hope that meaningful conversations will take place here every week. This place will continue to function as a ‘Collective Centre’, a hub for education and social progress.
This building is a place of new beginnings, new hope and a refreshing place to think big. I hope many new things will start to emerge from here. Without your love and support, nothing would be possible. I ask you to continue to give it.
