First look of fantasy thriller “Knock Knock” released!!
Director Raghav Ranganathan’s new thriller “Knock Knock” is coming!!
The new mystery and fantasy thriller “Knock Knock” is being directed by the versatile Raghav Ranganathan. The title and first look poster of the film have been released. This film, which is Raghav’s first directorial effort, is going to be released by Arvind Srinivasan, who has directed quality films like Dejavu and Tharunam, through his company “Arka Entertainments”.
The film ‘Knock Knock’ will definitely provide a new cinematic experience. The unique storyline and quality production of this film impressed director Arvind Srinivasan a lot. He is happy with this and has joined hands with this film.
Arvind Srinivasan said, “The aim of starting this production company was to identify talented new directors and bring their quality stories to a wider audience. When I saw ‘Knock Knock’, I felt that it was a very unique, quality content. So I immediately decided to join this team. I am very happy to be a part of such a film.”
Director Raghav Ranganathan spoke about his journey and this film with resiliency. “This is a momentous moment for me… a part of a very personal journey. For so long, you have seen me as an actor, a dancer, a music composer. But today, for the first time, I am standing before you as a director,” said Raghav Ranganathan. “Direction has always been a silent dream within me. In fact, it was a continuous tapping. Now… that dream has come true with Knock Knock.”
He continued about his character in the film: “Yes, I wrote this film for myself – but I want to make one thing clear. This is not a story centered around a typical hero. There will be no big-budget hero flying scenes or slow-moving scenes (we don’t have the budget to do that 😄) in this film. In ‘Knock Knock’, I may be the hero. But I am not the hero. The story is the hero.”
He continued, “The story does not belong to me alone. It belongs to every character on screen. What I really admired in the works of early directors like K. Balachander was the depth of the supporting characters. In films like ‘Ethirneechal’, each character is beautifully crafted. In my film, I wanted each character to be alive, to have significance, to stay in your mind even after the film is over. That is what I tried to make.”
Raghav explained where his passion for directing and storytelling began: “Where did it all start? Some people might have seen my wife and I on dance reality shows. We had won a few competitions. The compliment I treasured the most was, ‘You don’t just dance – you tell a story.’ That meant a lot to me. Because most of the stories – the ideas – for those dances came from me. It was in those dance rehearsal rooms that I realised that I had the creativity within me. In fact, after our performances in Maanad Mayilad, the Kala Master would say that I had a good director in my head. That’s how the storyteller in me was born.”
He said that ‘Naag Naag’ was an extension of that, “This film is based on a story that I have never seen before, that no one has explored. It is new, exciting and… emotional. I am looking forward to you experiencing this film.”
Talking about the responsibility he feels as a director for his first film, Raghav Ranganathan shared his inspiration: “I got a chance to act in a few scenes in the film ‘Enthiran’, which many people still talk about today. Or a film like ‘Nanjupuram’, which didn’t reach many people when it came out, is being appreciated today for its music, story, soul. However, this film seems different to me. Because this time everything is on me. The entire responsibility and burden is on me.”
This reminded him of the courage of revolutionary leader MGR: “It takes me to someone. His courage inspired me a lot. He was revolutionary leader MGR. At a challenging time in his film career, he invested everything for the film ‘Nadodi Mannan’… He famously said in a press conference: ‘If this film fails, I will become a nomad. If it succeeds, I will become a king’.” He said that such a belief is what inspires him now. He also said: “Even if it is not by God’s will, effort will pay off.”
He concluded with his optimism: “I have been knocking on the doors of success in the Tamil film industry for a long time. But with ‘Knock Knock’… I believe that door will finally open. Thank you for being a part of this journey. I am looking forward to sharing this film with you.”
