‘Ezhuchchi Tamilar’ Thol. Thirumavalavan releases music and preview of ‘Kuyili’
Music and preview of ‘Kuyili’ starring actress Lisi Antony launched in Chennai
The music and preview launch of ‘Kuyili’, produced by V.V. Arunkumar on behalf of B M Film International and directed by debutant director P. Murugasamy, starring actress Lisi Antony in the lead role, was held in Chennai. At this event, senior producer K. Rajan, director and actor Balaji Sakthivel received the music and preview of ‘Ezhuchchi Tamilar’ Thol. Thirumavalavan.
Lisi Antony, Ravi Cha, Dashmika, Deepthi, Pudupettai Saravanan, Ratchasan Saravanan play important roles in the film ‘Kuyili’ directed by debutant director P. Murugasamy. Praveen Raj has shot the cinematography for this film, which has music by Joe Smith. The film, which is being released by Mohan, is a film that depicts the continuous struggle of a mother and creates awareness about the ills of alcohol.
The film, which is scheduled to be released in theaters worldwide soon, was released at the music and preview launch event. Lok Sabha member and leader of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Nadu Thol. Thirumavalavan, senior producer K. Rajan, director and actor Balaji Sakthivel, and director Sreejar were present as special guests along with the film crew.
Producer Arun Kumar said, “I welcome everyone who has come here as special guests. I also thank the film crew who worked hard to make this film a success.
First of all, I would like to thank my parents. Because they taught me the things like ‘Don’t cheat’, ‘Don’t lie’, ‘Don’t steal’, and ‘Work hard and you will get success’. Following them, we have successfully completed the film despite many obstacles and delays. I would like to thank the entire ‘Kuyili’ film crew once again for their hard work. I also congratulate, welcome and thank the friends who invested in this film.
This film speaks of the pain of a mother. How many challenges does a mother face to raise her son? How many struggles do they face? How do they fight till the end of their lives? This film narrates. I would like to thank all the stars who acted in the film, including actress Lizzy Antony, who played Kuyili, and the technicians who worked.
This is not a commercial film but a film for society. I commend the director for this. If at least five percent of the people who watched the film after its release reform themselves, then we consider that the success of the film,” she said.
Actress Dashmika said, “I suddenly got the opportunity to act in this film. So I am happy at this moment. I was doing a small role in a film and I got an invitation to act in the film. When the film crew told me that I should play the heroine in an anti-drug film, I got excited. I thank the director and the producer for believing in me and giving me this role,” he said.
Senior producer K. Rajan said, “Welcome, welcome to Thol Thirumavalavan, who is a leader for everyone and the entire Tamil nation, without any particular community or caste.
He and I have been friends since he was studying in law college. We used to meet every day when the Viduthalai Siruthaigal Party protest was going on.
Like Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin, he also has a role in the formation of the India alliance. His voice has been heard in Parliament and continues to be heard.
Produced by PM Film International, this film ‘Kuyili’ is a wonderful family film. It has wonderfully shown how a mother fights for her family. I commend director Murugasamy and producer Arun Kumar for making this film with courage.
This film is a film made to eradicate drunkards. There is no glamour in this film, they have made it natural with some well-known actors. They have wonderfully told the horrors that are caused by drinking.
I am close to the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and Thiruma. But I am a little distant from this alcohol issue. Drinking has ruined many families. Many families have become victims. Therefore, drinking should be banned not only from Tamil Nadu but also from all over India.
In the current environment, 20 to 25 percent of women have started drinking. The country is going very badly in this regard.
So I am pleading with the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. Alcohol should be eradicated in some way.
There are five songs in this film. But as far as I am concerned, this film does not need so many songs. Fans do not like to watch song scenes in the theater. But all these songs are good. There is a meaningful song, it talks about the eradication of alcohol, and the pain that mothers suffer due to alcohol. Therefore, I consider it a privilege to participate in the audio launch of this film. I want this film to be successful. I wish the producer to get back the money invested in the film. I also request Tamil fans and the media to support this.
I request the producers and directors to suggest that the leading actors should give the film a Tamil title,” he said.
Director P. Murugasamy said, “When I was working as an assistant to director Balaji Sakthivel, I read about Karl Marx, Ambedkar and Father Periyar. I learned many things through that. After that, I joined the Kookai Film Institute and learned film education. More importantly, I learned political education. I also learned the lives of ordinary people there. It was through that that I was able to create a good work.
I would like to thank everyone who worked with me in this film, including the music composer, cinematographer, editor, assistant directors, actors and actresses.
I did not see Karl Marx, Ambedkar and Periyar. I see the revolutionary Tamilian Thol Thiruma, who has all three together. I have been listening to his struggle and speeches since a young age. I grew up watching Pa Ranjith,” he said.
Music composer Joe Smith said, “First of all, I would like to thank my parents. After completing my college studies, they have not heard anything from me since I expressed my desire to pursue a career in music. Following this, I would like to thank the producer of the film, Arun Kumar. I have been talking to him for the past ten years. Every time I talk to him on the phone, he would check on me and encourage me to make a film, saying, ‘If you make a film, you are the music composer.’ After ten years, when he became a producer, he called me and offered me the opportunity to compose music for the film.
There are more people who have left cinema and failed than those who have failed in cinema. None of the people who brought me into cinema are with me now. They are not in cinema either. They have gone to other fields. At this moment, only producer Arun Kumar gave me hope and gave me an opportunity.
The experience of composing music for this film was different. It was unforgettable. Director Murugasamy, ‘Kuyili’ commercial film No, it’s a film that speaks volumes. He said that the music should be composed accordingly. After that, he liked all the songs I composed.
There are five songs in this film. All five songs are in a way that tells people not to drink alcohol. The songs in this film have been sung by four new singers,” he said.
Speaking, Director Srijar said, ”Cinema and politics have been traveling together for years. Recently, politics has become a talking point in cinema.
I hope that the film ‘Kuyili’ will speak about the politics and culture of the oppressed people. In this film, they have taken a lesson about those addicted to alcohol. They have portrayed maternal love very beautifully.
The hero of this festival, Joe Smith, was identified and introduced by me ten years ago. I think there are a lot of songs in this film. Two songs are enough for such films. In this hectic life environment, we have shortened the cinema itself to one and a half hours. We think this is enough.
The film ‘Kuyili’ is a film that teaches good culture and good manners. It is clear that they have recorded pain. Congratulations to the director, producer and crew of the film.”
Director Balaji Sakthivel said, “I want everyone to make a biographical film about the life of the leader Thol Thirumavalavan. I am ready to cooperate with anyone who tries to do this.
The director of this film, Murugasamy, has been my assistant since the film ‘Kalluri’. He directed a short film and showed it to me and then joined as an assistant. He travels with me till today. I think he is also an actor and would have acted in this film too.
When I was acting in the films ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ and ‘Asuran’, he would visit me and absorb the things happening there. Only after doing all that did he make this film.
I hope he will be a success.
Director Murugasamy has a very simple background. He has done a lot of charity work with the late actor Mayilsamy. I am happy to see that the easy-going Murugasamy has risen as a director. I sincerely appreciate producer Arunkumar for giving him an opportunity.
He has directed this film from the perspective of simple people. There will be vigor in it. This is the strength of the film. I hope he will have written the screenplay well. I request everyone to support this film to succeed,” he said.
Actress Lizzy Antony said, ”I am a person who believes a lot in four things: self-will, hard work, perseverance and patience. This is what I have been practicing in my life till now. I saw these things in producer Arunkumar too.
I first got the call for this film from him. He himself narrated the story of the film to me. If a producer has told the story beautifully in my life, it is him. That experience was unforgettable. I also liked the subject matter of this film.
I told the producer that the title of this film should be ‘Kuyili’. He immediately agreed.
I request the fans and the media to support this film to make it a success,” he said.
Viduthalai Siruthaigal Party leader Thol. Thirumavalavan said, ”I was late to come here for this event as I participated in the protest organized by the left-wing movements against the military action against the tribal people in Chhattisgarh. I heard a song from the film on the stage. I asked my brother Rajan what the film emphasizes.
In this current environment, I appreciate the courage of director Murugasamy and producer Arun Kumar to make a film against alcohol with social responsibility. I congratulate them wholeheartedly.
It is a matter of joy and pride that the younger generation has created this work with a sense of social responsibility, without thinking of making films for commercial purposes, of succeeding in it, of making a profit from it, and of showing the way to the people, of freeing people from the suffering of this addiction, of gaining freedom. I am proud of this group. I extend my warmest congratulations to them.
You all know that we recently held a Women’s Conference on Alcohol and Drug Abuse. It became a topic of conversation. It was also heavily criticized.
While speaking, my brother Rajan mentioned that ‘alcohol should be eradicated at the national level’ and that Thirumavalavan should raise his voice in Parliament regarding this and that he might have spoken in Parliament. His faith did not go in vain. I have spoken about this in the Lok Sabha. The faith he has in me is amazing.
When I spoke about this in Parliament, Union Minister Nirmala Sitharaman mentioned this and put forward a political criticism in this regard. We are thinking beyond it. We have a broad vision that not only the youth of Tamil Nadu but also the people of our country across India should not be affected by alcohol. Therefore, I have been continuously insisting for a long time that the Government of India should adopt the policy of alcohol prohibition as a national policy.
We accept Mahatma Gandhi as our national leader. We print his portrait on rupee notes. One of his important policies is prohibition of alcohol. While we accept Mahatma as the Father of the Nation, do we not care about his vital policy of prohibition of alcohol?
The Union Government is turning a blind eye to this, saying that the states should take care of this. Not only Tamil Nadu but also other state governments see this as a way of their revenue. What if someone gets spoiled? The indifference continues. I have been concerned about this for many decades. I have spoken about this on many platforms. We have passed resolutions in many conferences.
Today, not only alcohol but also drugs including ganja are being sold openly. Drugs that were only prevalent in urban areas… are now penetrating villages as well. For this, we held a conference and passed a resolution urging the Union government to declare alcohol prohibition as a national policy throughout India. This was criticized. It was also criticized politically.
Alcohol should be abolished throughout India and drugs should be controlled. Not only those belonging to a particular community, but a large number of the younger generation are also getting addicted to alcohol and ruining their lives. They lose the ability to run a family. They have a nominal marital relationship and have two children. But they are not able to maintain them… and protect them.
They are not responsible for making them study and creating a good future. They are unable to stand and stumble. They are intoxicated from early morning till they go to bed. The wife carries all the burden of the family. You can only realize how terrible a tragedy it is if you go to the field and meet her directly.
This is one of the great tragedies that have befallen this country.
I heard the first song in this film. They have made all these tragedies into lyrics. This song touches our hearts deeply. A very, very important song. A song that should be played in every village. A song that everyone should have on their phone. A song that can create awareness. The music is also very good. Vettavalam T. Ramamoorthy has written this song. My compliments to him too.
Each of us has a responsibility in this matter. There is no need to bring politics into this and evaluate it.
When I personally spoke to the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu regarding this, he also has concerns regarding this. But this is a social structure, a system. Government-based structures sometimes operate against our wishes.
Awareness is needed on a large scale among the people. Today, we can see that alcohol is also a reason behind the increase in religious riots and violence.
We should continue to expand awareness without thinking about what the film ‘Kuyili’ can achieve. At least some youth can be protected from such harm. We can prevent them from suffering. We can protect the young generation.
Until the liquor shops are closed, every hospital should have a drug rehabilitation center, this is my demand. I have also conveyed this to the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu. All hospitals should have a psychological counseling center. For this, specially trained doctors should be employed.
Alcoholism does not only affect an individual. It affects the society. Therefore, alcohol and drugs should be controlled. Then they should be completely eradicated,’ he said.
Lyricist Vettavalam T. Ramamoorthy said, “I have written two songs for this film. I thank the producer and director for giving me this opportunity.
The problem of alcoholism is only relevant when it is told by those who are affected by it. In a few moments, the truth can be told. It will be useful for everyone…
I too am an alcoholic and have recovered from it and have written the songs for the film. My family members were supportive of this…
Don’t touch alcohol. Even if you touch it, leave it. Only then will you be happy,” he said.
