‘BMW1991’ wins 22 international film awards
‘BMW1991’ directed by actor Ponmudi Thirumalaisamy is collecting international film awards
The film ‘BMW1991’, produced by Vilvanga under GreenVis Cinema, is directed by actor Ponmudi Thirumalaisamy, who has played villainous roles in many films including Paiya, Karungali, V3. In this film, actor Ponmudi is joined by actress Manimekalai, who played the mother of actor Dhanush in the film Vada Chennai, and a nine-year-old boy from Madurai, Gautham, plays the central character of the film. Chaplin Balu plays the main role.
So far, the film has been sent to many international film festivals and has won 22 awards.. It is being sent to many more film festivals..
Basically, Ponmudi Thirumalaisamy is a theater artist.. He started an art school 11 years ago and has been providing acting training to students. His first film as a hero, ‘G’, was screened at several international film festivals and won various awards. It also won him the Best Actor award.
Following that, Ponmudi tried his hand at directing, starting with the film ‘Soma Pana Rupa Sundaram’, but due to some reasons, he could not move on to the next stage and faced problems. It was in this situation that Ponmudi directed the film ‘BMW 1991’.
Speaking about the way this film came about, director Ponmudi Thirumalaisamy said, “Earlier, I directed Soma Pana Rupa Sundaram, which starred Vishnu Priyan and Aishwarya Dutta. Due to some reasons, there were problems that prevented me from making that film. At that time, when actress Aishwarya Dutta asked what she was going to do next, I angrily said that I was going to do a film without a hero and heroine. Hearing this, she got very angry with me.
I said this in anger, but it was only when I thought I could achieve this that I got the story of ‘BMW 1991’. In fact, I made this film because of the challenge I gave to actress Aishwarya Dutta. The name of the film is BMW, and a bicycle occupies the main place in the film.
A bicycle is something that is common to all people all over the world. At one time, owning a bicycle was considered a great honor and a big thing. In fact, many considered it to be similar to a car. I created the story of this film based on that. Already, the director of tomorrow I have given stories to many directors in many seasons of the show. I have also recommended some to be directors. When I worked on the film ‘Beechangai’, I did not get the due recognition for it. That is why I decided to become a director.
Similarly, an actor should not become a director, as it is being said that they will drag the budget too much, so I decided to direct a film with a low budget to overcome that and even if it is made as an award film, it can attract attention.
The central character of this film is Gautham, a nine-year-old boy from Madurai. After undergoing a tongue operation, I gave the boy speech and acting training for 6 months. He spoke and acted very well in this film. I have made this film with the help of more than 50 people who do not have much cinema experience, but at the same time have been trained by me.
Even though it is an award film, it has three songs and a fight scene. One of the songs is written in English.. M. Chandrakumar, the screenwriter of the film ‘Pirana’, a writer and actor from Coimbatore
After watching the film, he praised it as having the features required not only for awards but also for a commercial film. The film has been made to run for two hours,” said director Ponmudi Thirumalaisamy.
In addition to participating in film festivals, the work of releasing the film in theaters is also underway.
