Famous gynecologist C Veni, wife of famous 5 rupee doctor Dr. S Jayachandran of Washermanpet, passed away.
Famous gynecologist Mrs. C Veni, wife of Dr. S Jayachandran, who was famous for providing medical treatment to the poor at a very low cost in Washermanpet, Chennai, passed away due to a heart attack this morning.
Mrs. C Veni was born in 1953 as the last daughter of Punniakodi Thamapathiyar, Chinnakannu. She completed her medical studies in the department of Gynaecology from the famous KMC College, Chennai. Later, she worked as the Head of the Medical College Department (HOD) at RSRM and Vellore Medical Colleges for 40 years.
She also worked as the Superintendent of Rajiv Gandhi Government Hospital. She worked as the Controller of Examinations at Tamil Nadu MGR Medical College and was a renowned expert in obstetrics and gynecology.
Like her husband Dr. S Jayachandran, she became famous for providing obstetric services to women in Washermanpet and Kasimedu areas. She has performed obstetric services to more than 1 lakh women so far.
Following the demise of Dr. S Jayachandran, who provided medical treatment to the people for a fee of Rs. 5 and was appreciated by the Prime Minister of India, Hon. Mr. Modi, and the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Hon. Mr. M. K. Stalin, the social work left behind by him is being continued by his family in the place where he lived.
Dr. Mrs. Veni Jayachandran passed away today, 18.08.2025 at 6.15 am due to cardiac arrest. Her body has been kept at Venkatachalam Street, Old Washermanpet, Chennai 21 for public tribute. Her body will be taken in a procession tomorrow, 19/08/2025 at 10 am and will be buried at Kasimedu Cemetery.
