‘Haal’ film denied screening in Tamil Nadu – Official complaint filed against PVR Cinemas by CCKTDFD

An official complaint has been filed against the PVR Cinemas – Tamil Nadu management for allegedly systematically denying screenings of the Malayalam film ‘Haal’ in Tamil Nadu.

The complainant is stated to be a registered member of the Producers’ Association and an active distributor member of the CCKTDFD organization. He claims to operate with a thorough understanding of the film industry’s practices and regulations.

While the film ‘Haal’ has been successfully released in PVR theaters in Kerala and Karnataka, receiving a good response from audiences and achieving satisfactory box office collections, the denial of screenings in Tamil Nadu alone has raised questions.

The complaint states that despite repeated attempts to contact them and presenting reasonable requests, the PVR Tamil Nadu management refused to provide any screenings. Specifically, it is alleged that Mr. Balu, who is in charge of programming at PVR Tamil Nadu, displayed a highly unprofessional and disrespectful attitude during negotiations.

He is reported to have said, “Only if I decide, will a film be released in PVR theaters in Tamil Nadu.” The complaint points out that this reflects a monopolistic attitude, abuse of power, and a disregard for fair screening practices.

Furthermore, the complainant states that he has received information that Mr. Balu is allegedly collecting money through his assistant for providing favorable screening slots. It is emphasized that these details warrant a serious investigation. It has also been stated that the arbitrary denial of screenings in Tamil Nadu alone, regardless of the film’s proven success in other states, raises serious doubts about a lack of transparency and the misuse of decision-making authority.
The complaint also emphasizes that independent and regional films should not be subjected to personal whims or intimidation.

A humble request has been made for the CCKTDFD to immediately investigate this matter and take appropriate action.

Confidence has also been expressed that PVR Cinemas, a nationally reputable multiplex company, will uphold fairness, professional ethics, and decent business practices.
