Two Tamil Nadu State Government awards for the song ‘Aagayam Mele’ from the film ‘Thainilam’; the film crew is overjoyed
The film ‘Thainilam’, which received two Tamil Nadu State Government awards, is getting ready for a summer release
‘Thainilam’ is a film produced by Dr. Amar Ramachandran under the banner of Nemi Productions. The film is directed by Abhilash G. Devan. The music is composed by the renowned National Award-winning Malayalam music director, Mr. Ouseppachan. This is his first film as a music composer in Tamil.
The film, which depicts the horrific consequences of the Sri Lankan civil war against the backdrop of a father-daughter relationship, features the song ‘Aagayam Mele’, written by poet Thamarai and sung by Varsha Ranjith. The song portrays the losses and pain of the Eelam Tamil people and the lives of those left orphaned and alone.
‘Thainilam’ was selected to participate in 12 international film festivals, including Moscow, Toronto, Sweden, and Bengaluru International Film Festivals. It won nine awards, including Best Film, Best Debut Director, Best Music, and Best Cinematography.
Recently, in the Tamil Nadu State Government Film Awards announced for the year 2020, poet Thamarai was awarded the Best Lyricist award for writing the song ‘Aagayam Mele’, and Varsha Ranjith received the Best Female Playback Singer award for singing the same song.
This has brought immense joy to the ‘Thainilam’ film crew.
Regarding the two awards received for this song, the director of ‘Thainilam’, Abhilash G. Devan, said:
“The film ‘Thainilam’ is based on the life struggles of the Eelam Tamils who migrated as refugees.” This film, which centers on the affectionate bond between a father and daughter, required a powerful song to drive the narrative forward before the climax.
When we approached lyricist Thamarai to write the song, she initially hesitated, considering it a small film. However, after hearing the story, she wrote this wonderful song, ‘Aagayam Mele’. Varsha Ranjith, from the Malayalam film industry, made her debut as a playback singer with this song. It is noteworthy that she received a Best Singer award for her very first film.
The songs of ‘Thaainilam’ were released by Saregama. Following the awards received for this song, the number of viewers watching the song on YouTube has increased.
Furthermore, following the announcement of these awards, several distributors have approached us with the intention of releasing ‘Thaainilam’. An announcement regarding the film’s release, planned for the summer holidays, will be made soon,” he said.
The film awards ceremony will be held on February 13th at 4:30 PM at the Kalaivanar Arangam in Chennai. Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin will present the awards.
