Starring Pradeep Ranganathan—one of the leading young stars of the Tamil film industry—as the protagonist, and directed by the acclaimed filmmaker Vignesh Shivan, the movie Love Insurance Company (LIK) was released worldwide on April 10th. “I played a role in facilitating Seeman Anna’s (brother’s) participation in this film. Initially, I harbored some doubts as to whether he would agree to act in it. As is the case with any challenging film, this project, too, encountered its share of difficulties and hurdles. However, having overcome all those obstacles, it gives us immense joy to see the film being lauded for its sheer quality. This film holds a very special significance for me. In it, I have portrayed a character—”Kalki”—that is distinctly different from any role I have undertaken thus far. It brings me great happiness to see the audience truly understanding this character and reaching out personally via messages to offer their appreciation. In particular, many viewers have expressed how deeply they resonated with the emotional core of the friendship depicted in the film.

More than my involvement as an actress in this film, I enjoyed watching it immensely as a viewer. I am at a loss as to where to begin… so, I shall start with Mr. Vignesh Shivan. The affection he holds for me is truly immense. To illustrate just how deep that affection runs: he would suddenly call me up and ask, “Where are you? Can you fly down to Malaysia by tomorrow?” He would be prepared to spend crores of rupees on a single scene—doing so solely because he believed, “If you are present, this scene will be elevated to a whole new level.” He exerts a certain kind of “sweet pressure”—yet, that pressure is applied entirely for the sake of the film and for the audience. Despite enduring numerous hardships and struggles behind the scenes, he ensures that we remain completely unaware of them. Ever since I was a child, I harbored a strong desire to learn it. My mother completed her education in Coimbatore, and she would often speak in Tamil at home; however, she never taught it to me. It felt almost like a secret language shared exclusively between her and my father. Now, through the opportunity to act in Tamil films, I have finally gained the chance to learn this beautiful language.
When the trailer and teaser for this film were released, many people remarked that I appeared to be playing a character akin to a robot. This observation brought me immense joy, as that was precisely the fundamental concept behind the character. In today’s generation, we have all become so immersed in the digital world of mobile phones that we have drifted apart from the people around us. That specific emotional detachment is exactly what this character embodies. I am delighted that this concept was portrayed so beautifully on screen, and it gives me great happiness to see so many people connecting with and discussing this aspect of the film.
The element I loved most about this movie is that specific moment where all the various plot threads and incidents converge at a single point. In particular, the scene where my character finally expresses her emotions is truly exceptional. It is truly rare to find people in life who accept and love us for who we are, without any conditions or reasons. This film beautifully captures that sentiment. Greetings to my friends in the press and media. The journey of this film has been a long one, spanning approximately three to four years. I was first pitched the one-line concept of this story back in February 2022. At that time, the fans were also aware that this film was in the works.
Subsequently, we faced numerous delays. The release dates were rescheduled multiple times—shifting from summer to December, then to February; we kept pushing the dates back repeatedly.
Generally, such delays tend to dampen the expectations surrounding a film. They can also cause a slight dip in confidence—an effect that inevitably impacts the film crew as well. I, too, harbored the same doubt: “How could a film released after such a long delay possibly be well-received?” However, the manner in which the film was received came as a huge surprise to all of us. It garnered a massive opening. The love showered upon us by the audience exceeded my wildest expectations. Having overcome all these hurdles, I wish to express my heartfelt gratitude to the people for the immense affection they have bestowed upon this film. My thanks also go to my film crew, the director, and the producers.
Most importantly, at this juncture, I would like to extend my gratitude to three key technical artists: Cinematographer Ravi Varman Sir, Editor Pradeep Raghav, and Music Composer Anirudh Sir. For me, the very fact that this film was released is a blockbuster in itself. Its release constitutes my greatest victory. This is because dreaming big is never easy; it requires stepping out of one’s comfort zone. My life might have been comfortable, but this film represents my deliberate effort to break out of that comfort zone and challenge myself.
Not a single frame in this film could be shot with ease. Every single detail—the costumes, sets, VFX, makeup, and dialogue—demanded meticulous attention; everything had to be perfect. Only then would the film feel authentic and believable. Since its release, the film has garnered numerous positive reviews and accolades. At the same time, some viewers remarked that the pacing felt “slow.” However, a “high-concept” film inherently requires a certain amount of exposition at the beginning—much like the safety instructions delivered before an airplane takes off. I accept this feedback as constructive criticism; it has helped me gain new perspectives as well.
At its core, this film is indeed a love story. However, it represents an endeavor to offer a fresh cinematic experience, devoid of conventional melodrama. The joy one feels when that creative effort translates into applause within the theater is indescribable. As a writer and director, the realization that our work has resonated with—and worked for—at least a segment of the audience serves to bolster our confidence and conviction. For that, I extend my deepest gratitude to the audience.
Pradeep is the sole reason this film came to fruition. We faced budgetary constraints right from the outset; yet, it was entirely thanks to him that this film ultimately took shape. In today’s landscape, where so many films get shelved or fall victim to leaks, the plight of directors has become incredibly arduous. Only a fellow director can truly comprehend that specific pain. In that context, I wish to express my heartfelt empathy to Mr. H. Vinoth, who recently had to contend with the issue of a film leak. For a director, that is an agonizingly painful experience. I filmed this movie to the best of my ability, without making any compromises. You only get one shot at it—so I gave it my absolute all. Pradeep is not merely a lead actor; he is a truly dedicated artist. His punctuality, discipline, and dedication—everything was on a whole other level.
The effort he invested in a particular swimming pool sequence is unforgettable. Acting while holding one’s breath for extended periods is incredibly difficult, yet he executed it with complete dedication. I have gathered many such cherished memories while working on this film. For that, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to him. The tremendous opening this film has received is entirely a testament to the faith the audience has placed in Pradeep.
I am confident that this film will enjoy a long and successful theatrical run. Although it has received some mixed reviews, if you go and watch it in a theater, you will undoubtedly enjoy it. Krithi—she is still very much like a child at heart. Her mother is just the same. On set, there were many times when we looked after them just as one would look after a child. Although she made minor mistakes occasionally, her dedication to her craft while working was exceptional. This was particularly evident during the swimming pool sequence; even after returning from shoots at other locations, she worked tirelessly through the night without ever showing a hint of fatigue. She is a delightful person, and working with her was a truly enjoyable experience for me.
Ravi Varman—every single frame he captures is breathtakingly beautiful. The talent of our cinematographer, Ravi Varman Sir, infused a magical quality even into scenes filmed on ordinary streets in Malaysia. He possesses a unique gift for creating extraordinary visuals with remarkable simplicity.
The other actors who starred in this film also put in a tremendous amount of hard work. Gouri—working with her was a fascinating experience. She envisioned the future of her character, embraced the costume designs that best suited that vision, and delivered a wonderful performance.
The primary reason this film came to fruition is our producer, Lalit Sir. Had he not stepped forward and said, “Let’s start this film,” this project would never have materialized. For that, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to him. I must also express my deep appreciation to all the technical crew members who worked on this film.
Editor Pradeep Raghavan—this film was fraught with numerous complications, and I harbored many doubts along the way. During those critical moments, he would sit down, meticulously analyze every single scene, create multiple iterations, and help us discover the perfect narrative form. For a single film, he invested an amount of effort equivalent to working on ten. Mr. Muthuraj’s production design, the costume design, and the visual effects—all of these elements served as immense strengths for this film. The team at Mango Post provided invaluable assistance with the visual effects work on this project. What began as a seemingly minor assignment evolved into a wholehearted commitment; they immersed themselves completely in the film and delivered everything we required. I will remain eternally grateful to them for that.
Mr. S.J. Suryah—ever since 2018, I had envisioned him—and only him—for this specific role. Despite his incredibly busy schedule, he graciously allocated the necessary time and extended his unwavering support to this film.
