“Muthu Engira Kaattan” – Success Celebration!!
Produced by Vijay Sethupathi Productions as a Jio Hotstar Originals presentation, and spearheaded by Director Manikandan, the series “Muthu Engira Kaattan” features Makkal Selvan Vijay Sethupathi in the lead role. Co-directed by B. Ajith Kumar and M. Manikandan, this series explores a unique and distinct narrative landscape.
Released on the Jio Hotstar platform on March 27, 2026, the series has garnered an overwhelming reception from both fans and the general public, emerging as a massive success. Within a short span of its release, it has set a new record by attracting a colossal number of viewers.
The entire cast and crew came together to celebrate this triumph by cutting a celebratory cake.
Speaking at the event, Makkal Selvan Vijay Sethupathi said:
“This project has been a truly joyful experience for me. Manikandan and I planned this endeavor with the specific intention that the work we produce should bring a sense of fulfillment to everyone involved. Even when the project faced a temporary halt at one point, the fact that it naturally revived and reached this milestone brings me immense happiness.
Every character in this story possesses a unique backstory of their own. Each scene feels as though it is narrating a slice of life itself; that is precisely what makes this project so special to me. This particular character reflects the life of an ordinary man. It demonstrates the sheer beauty that exists within a simple life—devoid of any grand or extraordinary events.
It was Director Manikandan who introduced me to Ajith Kumar. Everyone who worked on this production gave their absolute best with complete dedication. The story resonated deeply with our own lives, which made it incredibly easy for me to immerse myself in the character.
Muthu was brought on board by Manikandan; we share a friendship spanning many years. He delivered a performance so brilliant that it actually made me feel envious! Vadivel Murugan also took me by surprise. I initially wondered how a film reviewer would fare as an actor, but he went above and beyond my expectations and delivered a stunning performance.” Parvathy, too, portrayed her character exceptionally well.
Pradeep Milroy Peter (Creative Head, Hotstar Specials – Tamil) and Senthil (Executive Producer, Hotstar Specials) were instrumental in bringing this series to full fruition. By uniting everyone and ensuring that every need was met, they successfully steered the series to its current standing. My sincere thanks to them. I have been working with Vijay Sethupathi and Manikandan for many years now. Several films we have collaborated on have achieved immense success—
films such as ’96 and Aandavan Kattalai have truly captured a special place in the hearts of the audience.
That journey holds great significance for me. I still vividly recall the very first moment I met him in person. In this series, the way he performed during the festival sequence left me truly awestruck;
it was a performance that inspired immense confidence. We grew to become close friends, and that friendship is palpable in our professional work as well. That mutual understanding shines through in every single scene.

Cinematographer Madhu Neelakandan spoke as follows:

Actor Muthukumar spoke as follows:

Ever since I landed the role of ‘Lalitha’ in this story, the very way people look at me has undergone a complete transformation.” I was truly delighted when someone remarked, “You fit into the role so naturally—just like a girl from that very town—and looked absolutely beautiful doing it.” This opportunity helped me bring out a different facet of my personality that lay dormant within me.
