Playback singer Velmurugan gifts a gold chain to renowned music composer G.V. Prakash on his birthday!

Today marks the birthday of popular music composer G.V. Prakash Kumar. To celebrate the milestone of him composing music for over 100 films, playback singer Velmurugan—who has frequently sung for his compositions—presented a gold chain engraved with the inscription “100 Films GV Sir” to the composer as a token of affection. Velmurugan’s daughter and music composer N.R. Raghunanthan were also present on the occasion.

Although Velmurugan, now renowned for his folk songs, had sung in a few films previously, it was the opportunity given by G.V. Prakash in the movie Aadukalam that brought him into the limelight and earned him recognition. This breakthrough not only led to numerous film offers but also made him famous enough to tour internationally. He attributes his 19-year journey in the music industry and his repertoire of a thousand songs to the foundation laid by G.V. Prakash.

Several songs sung by Velmurugan for G.V. Prakash Kumar’s music became massive hits, including “Otha Sollala” from Aadukalam, “Pottadhu Pathala” from Saguni, “Karuppu Nirathazhagi” from Komban, and “Kathari Poovazhagi” from Asuran. Speaking about this, playback singer Velmurugan says with deep emotion:

“I went to wish him today to express my gratitude to my beloved music composer, who illuminated my life by consistently giving me opportunities across 25 films—starting with Aadukalam and including Saguni, Komban, Sema, Asuran, Yaanai, Veera Dheera Sooran, Thaandavam, Meendum Oru Kadhal Kadhai, Rebel, and the recent major hit Parasakthi. It is no exaggeration to say that the reason my family and I are living happily today is the singing opportunities he provided. I do not know how to adequately thank him; on his birthday, I simply expressed my affection. Meeting him today was a truly delightful experience.”
