Chennai, 18 July 2026

The film ‘Amaran’, jointly produced by Raaj Kamal Films International, Sony Pictures, and Turmeric Media, has won three National Awards.

The recognition received by ‘Amaran’ at the 72nd National Film Awards, announced yesterday, is a moment of pride for the producers. This victory is a testament to the hard work and dedication of every artist and technician who contributed to the film.

Produced by Kamal Haasan and R. Mahendran, the film has won awards in the following key categories:

  • Best Director – Rajkumar Periasamy
  • Best Music Direction (Background Score) – G. V. Prakash Kumar
  • Best Editor – R. Kalaivanan

These awards celebrate the extraordinary talent of the three artists who helped transform ‘Amaran’ into a magnificent cinematic epic.

The film is based on the life of Major Mukund Varadarajan, a recipient of the Ashoka Chakra. It serves as a tribute to one of India’s finest army officers who fought valiantly for the nation. The film garnered immense appreciation from audiences for its emotional narrative, its portrayal of valor and sacrifice, and its high technical quality.

Mr. Kamal Haasan said:

“My heartfelt congratulations to Rajkumar Periasamy for winning the National Award for Best Director. This is well-deserved recognition for your clear directorial vision and storytelling prowess. My appreciation also goes to G.V. Prakash Kumar for winning the award for Best Background Score and to R. Kalaivanan for Best Editing. Your hard work elevated the film Amaran to the next level.

My gratitude to Sivakarthikeyan and Sai Pallavi. Some performances transcend awards. Thank you for delivering such authentic, beautiful, and powerful performances in Amaran. Your portrayals of Major Mukund Varadarajan and Indhu Rebecca will remain etched in the history of Indian cinema forever.

Every award and accolade received by Amaran immortalizes the valor and sacrifice of Major Mukund Varadarajan. For the past 46 years, Raaj Kamal Films International has championed quality cinema. These National Awards bring not only joy and pride but also reaffirm our commitment to telling authentic Indian stories with excellence.”

Turmeric Media Producer Mr. R. Mahendran said:

“I first learned about Major Mukund Varadarajan’s story in 2016 while producing the program ‘Mudhal Mariyadhai – Salute to the Indian Army’ for Vijay TV. His valor, the quiet resilience of Mrs. Indhu, and the sacrifices made by the families of our army personnel left an indelible mark on my heart.

We decided to tell this story through the film Amaran in 2024 so that every Indian—and especially every child—could know the person behind the army uniform.” The film Amaran has received three National Film Awards—the highest honor in Indian cinema.

“Some journeys begin as films, but others become deeply personal, touching our hearts. Amaran is one such journey. I feel deeply moved, grateful, and proud of the Amaran team.”

The National Awards announced yesterday have once again established the film as one of the finest Indian movies released in recent times. This achievement reaffirms the collaborative effort of Raaj Kamal Films International, Sony Pictures, and Turmeric Media in creating films of artistic excellence and national significance.
