“Mutham Thoorum” – A New Tamil Rendition of Annamayya’s Timeless Classic

“Mutham Thoorum” is a Tamil adaptation of the revered Telugu classic “Muddugaare Yashoda,” originally composed by Annamayya. This song is well-known for its poetic comparison of child Krishna to nine precious gemstones, each line capturing the divine charm and playful deeds of the young deity. This classic piece, has been sung in Tamil by singer Swetha Mohan. In addition to performing the vocals, Swetha has also interpreted the lyrics, ensuring that the essence of the original is preserved. The Tamil translation of the song was penned by lyricist Madhan Karky, who carefully retained the song’s original sentiment while adapting it for a Tamil-speaking audience. The melody of “Mutham Thoorum” stays true to the original tune of “Muddugaare Yashoda,” as arranged by Sam Lawrence.

Annamayya’s composition, sung in praise of child Krishna, has been cherished for generations, and this new Tamil version seeks to bring the same spiritual and cultural richness to a broader audience, connecting the timeless beauty of the original.
The promotional video for the song was released last week on Janmashtami. Now, the full version of the song is available on Paa Music’s YouTube channel, and it will soon be accessible across all major music streaming platforms, allowing a broader audience to experience this classic in its new Tamil rendition.
