Produced by producers C. V. Kumar and S. Thangaraj and directed by director S. J. Arjun, ‘Soodhu Kavvum 2’, starring ‘Akhil Ulaga Superstar’ Mirchi Siva as the hero of the story, will be released in theaters worldwide on December 13. The film is being distributed by Shanmugam Cinemas K. Suresh.
‘Soodhu Kavvum 2’ stars Mirchi Siva, Vaagai Chandrasekhar, Karunakaran, Radha Ravi, M. S. Bhaskar, Aruldas, Ramesh Thilak, Yog JP, Harisha Justin, Karate Karthi, Kalki and others. The film has cinematography by Karthik Thillai and music by Edwin Louis Viswanath – Hari. Producers C. V. Kumar and S. Thangaraj have jointly produced the film on behalf of Thirukumaran Entertainment and Thangam Cinemas.
The press conference of the film ‘Soodhu Kavvum 2’ was held in Chennai. The film crew attended the event.
Producer Thangaraj said, ”Producer C. V. Kumar is facing a lot of problems. Many people told me not to work with him. But I had faith in C. V. Kumar. His company is famous as a big production company in Tamil cinema. I know that he has produced more than 26 films. He has produced and released 26 films in an environment where it is difficult to produce and release a film in cinema. That too, if he came to Chennai from Madurai as an ordinary person and started a production company and produced and released more than twenty films.
He must have faced a lot of problems. But he has overcome all the problems and proved through the film ‘Soodhu Kavvum 2’ that I can get back into film production. He has been actively involved in all the efforts to release this film successfully. I request all of you to support me to make this a success,” he said.
Actor Karunakaran said, “Thank you all for your love and support. When I acted in ‘Soothu Kavvum’, it was my third film. When I acted in ‘Soothu Kavvum 2’, I had completed a hundred films. I thank producer C V Kumar for this. Because he trusts new directors and actors and gives them opportunities. I would like to thank him once again at this moment for the trust he has placed in me. He was the one who introduced leading directors like Nalan Kumarasamy and Karthik Subbaraj. We are also students of Thirukumaran Entertainment.
The way you supported ‘Soothu Kavvum’ and made it a success, I should also support ‘Soothu Kavvum 2’. There is a lot of connection between the first part and the second part. This film is made in the comedy genre. I am a big fan of Mirchi Siva and it was a pleasure to work with him. I have come here from Pondicherry to listen to him on this stage. He is the hero of my first film ‘Kalakalappu’. It is a pleasure to work with him again in this film. The director of the film, Arjun, is a hard worker. I want this film to be a big success for him,” he said.
Actor M. S. Bhaskar said, ”A happy and unforgettable thing happened to me in this film. I played Karunakaran’s father in the first part of the film Soodhu Kavum. That character was very well received. I hope that this film will also be well received. Although I have been friends with Vaagai Chandrasekhar for 40 years, this is the first film I have acted with him.
On December 28, while we were shooting, Vaagai Chandrasekhar and I were getting ready to have food when I got the news of Captain Vijayakanth’s demise. After that, we did not eat at all. I was not feeling well. I started crying uncontrollably. I am crying on one side. On the other side, uncle Vaagai Chandrasekhar is crying. Due to unavoidable circumstances, we attended the last rites of the captain the next day on December 29th. The director, producer and the entire crew of the film, who made so many people live, are definitely blessed by Captain Vijayakanth. I pray to his soul that this film becomes a huge success,” he said.
Actor Vaagai Chandrasekhar said, “It has been 45 years since I came to the film industry. Friends I have been meeting for 45 years have come here. When I meet them, all my old memories come back to me. The hero of the film, Siva, is not only realistic on the set but also in life and keeps everyone happy wherever he is. I also like M. S. Bhaskar, who is acting in this film.
I have known him for 45 years. He dubbed for the film Bharathiraja. So I worked on this film with joy. Producers C.V. Kumar and Thangaraj have given me this opportunity. In this film, I have acted with this generation’s actor Siva and our generation’s actors Radharavi-MS Bhaskar. Even though I am in a political party, in politics, or in a government position, I am still an artist. I came to Chennai from my village to become an actor. I would like to thank all the producers-directors-media-people who have given me this opportunity till now.
Arjun is a wonderful director. He explained the scenes naturally on the set without any nervousness and got the performance from us. The cinematographer was his strong side. They worked quickly without feeling tired. I have not seen this film in its entirety yet. However, my character was good while dubbing. They have given me a good character. After this film, director S. J. Arjun will achieve great success. I know that S.J. Arjun will join the ranks of producers’ directors like Rama. Narayanan and K. S. Ravikumar.
Siva is a very intelligent person. He has understood the philosophy of life. He has understood the struggle in life. I have learned some things from him.

The producer of the film, C. V. Kumar, said, ”The idea of Soodhu Kavvum 2 was there while shooting the first part of Soodhu Kavvum. When the final stages of Soodhu Kavvum were underway, I asked a question to director Nal after watching the film. This film is unconventional. I asked him if there will be criticism in this regard. He said that he will definitely criticize this film. As he said, people celebrated this film after its release. But media friends and people from the film industry criticized it a lot as a wrong precedent. At that time, I did not make this film as one film. We are planning to make it in three parts. I told them that after this film, we should make ‘Soodhu Kavvum 2’ and then we should make a film called ‘Soodhu Kavvum – Dharmam Vellum’ as the third part. I also explained that only then will it be completed.
When I talked to Nalan Kumaraswamy about this, at one point he said that he could not write the story for the film ‘Soodhu Kavvum 2’ and that we can make it again after a few years. I started that film with ‘Soodhu Kavvum 2’ before starting ‘Kadhalum Kaddu Pogum’. After completing Kadhalum Kaddu Pogum, I asked Nalan Kumaraswamy again when we were going to start ‘Soodhu Kavvum 2’. At that time, he said that he was writing a screenplay for another production company called ‘Vaa Vaathiyaar’. He also said that we should start writing the story of ‘Soodhu Kavvum 2’ with our team. At that moment, he briefly told me how the story of ‘Soodhu Kavvum 2’ should be.
When I thought about who could write the screenplay for Soodhu Kavvum 2, Arjun came along. At that time, he had contributed to the screenplay of ‘Mundasupatti’, ‘Innu Vendu Naalai’, and ‘Ratsasan’. He has a good sense of comedy. After that, we formed a team and started writing the screenplay for the film in 2019.
There are currently many films in Tamil cinema like Part 1, Part 2, Part 3. In the second part of Chennai 28, the same characters were seen after 25 years. This is also a similar film. It is not like a different story with a different hero just by keeping the title. The characters from the first part of Soodhu Kavvum are also present in this second part.
We shot the first part of Soodhu Kavvum in 2013. The idea given by Nalan Kumarasamy was how the story of ‘Soodhu Kavvum 2’ starts in the 1990s, passes through 2013 and continues in 2024. He also said that he would give permission for Soodhu Kavvum 2 only if Nalan Kumaraswamy promised to make the third part of Soodhu Kavvum titled ‘Soodhu Kavvum- Dharmam Vellum’. In that sense, this film will be the first ‘trilogy’ in Tamil cinema. Nalan Kumaraswamy has written the story of the film up to ‘Soodhu Kavvum- Dharmam Vellum’.
After writing the story of Soodhu Kavvum, when the question arose about who would be the hero of this film, he asked Manohar, who acted in Lollu Sabha. When I told him, I hesitated at first. When I told Vijay Sethupathi this story, he agreed to act.
[11/26, 16:11] Aryan: He expressed his interest. When I told this to Nalan Kumarasamy, he immediately refused. After that, it took us a week to convince him. But after he agreed to play the role, he made the character stand out with his acting skills. It turned out to be a great cult film.
Just as Vijay Sethupathi was suitable in that film and made it successful… similarly, the international superstar Mirchi Siva would be suitable for the role of Gurunath in this film. This character is an extraordinary character. We decided that only he could accept and play that character.
As far as the film Soodhu Kavvum is concerned, the hero of the story is Arumai Prakasam. All the other characters are woven around him. This is what Nalan Kumarasamy said. While writing the screenplay of the film, I told Karunakaran that you should play that character.
After 2017, I had a serious financial problem for seven years. The story of this film is well written. When I thought that the fans would celebrate this only if it was made with the appropriate quality, I approached Thangaraj, the producer of Thangam Cinemas, and asked him to help me. Although many people said wrong things about me, he had full faith in me and invested six crore rupees and made the film. He is also spending 2 crore rupees to promote the money. Currently, we are trying to release this film on a large scale.
Through this film, we are introducing two music composers, Edwin Louis Viswanath and Hari.
The character played by Vaagai Chandrasekhar in this film is special. I cannot tell many details about it right now. A personable star face was needed to play this character. We chose him for that. He also realized that and acted wonderfully.
Director Arjun took three years to write the screenplay for this film. Corona infection occurred in 2019. He completed the screenplay in 2022. The shooting took place in 2023.
After a long time, I felt a lot of confidence when I saw this film produced by my production company. It also gave me the confidence to talk about it. I am sure that everyone will like this film. This film is the 21st film to be released by my company. I request you to extend the support you have given to 20 films to this film as well. I request you to make this film a huge success,” he said.
Speaking, Director S. J. Arjun said, “I worked as an assistant director in the film Mundasupatti. C. V. Kumar sir was the producer of that film. After that, I wrote the screenplay for the film Ratsasan. I assisted in the screenplay for the film Mark Antony. 13 years have passed. After that, C. V. Kumar sir called me again. He asked me to write the story of the film Soodhu Kavum 2. I also happily agreed. When I told this to my friends, everyone scared me. But I was not afraid because I did not have any work at that time. I thought that I would do this work rather than being idle. In this film, there is a dialogue that says ‘Don’t look at the problem in the opportunity…look at the opportunity in that problem.’ So we started writing the story. C. V. Kumar’s production company is difficult.
Generally, there are two types of parents. They provide all the facilities so that their child does not face any hardship. So, they buy whatever the child asks for and raise it. This is one type. There are also other types of parents, that is, they want their son to understand the hardship they are facing. So, they make the boy aware of their hardship. The boy also grows up feeling the hardship of his father. This is what C. V. Kumar’s production company is like. But the people who have emerged through C. V. Kumar’s production company are those who understand the pain of producers. This is where you can feel the reality of cinema. If people like Karthik Subbaraj have gone from here and are successful directors and producers today, it is because of the training given to them by C. V. Kumar here.
After finishing writing the story of Soodhu Kavvum 2, the question arose as to who would be a suitable hero for this story. It is a character that can be handled easily no matter how critical the situation is. We decided that Mirchi Siva would be the right fit for it. He is also fun on the set. He has played the role of Gurunath well in this film. The audience who sees it in the theaters will definitely enjoy it.

When I met CV Kumar sir in the office, he said that we are going to make the film ‘Soodhu Kavvum 2’. As soon as he told me that, I thought that Soodhu Kavvum was a good film, why are they making a second part of it. That is, why are they making that good film again? Even though I am acting in it… At that time, director Arjun said that this film is being made as a prequel to the film Soodhu Kavvum. After that, there will be a connection with the current film. Also, I really liked the screenplay he told for it. There were many interesting twists and turns, like me coming into that story, meeting Karunakaran. After that, we started working on the film.
Producer C V Kumar has introduced many new creators to the Tamil film world. I am grateful to him for introducing people like P. Ranjith – Nalan Kumaraswamy – Karthik Subbaraj.
I have seen the producer talking about the financial problem on many platforms. It is said that cinema does not abandon those who love cinema. It is because he loves cinema beyond measure that I agreed to act in this film. We have seen the film Enter the Dragon so far. Now he has come back as Return the Dragon.
He said that he is going to produce his next film ‘Soodhu Kavvum – Dharmam Vellum’. But he did not say whether I will be in that film or not. However, I wish that film success too.

It was a happy experience to act with MS Bhaskar, Karunakaran, Vaagai Chandrasekhar, Aruldas, who acted in this film. I told my mother that I would act with Vaagai Chandrasekhar in particular. She was surprised and said, “Are you acting with him? He speaks good Tamil..!” He said. He has been acting since the film ‘Oru Thalai Ragam’ till today. The buildup given by Karunakaran is a bit too much. He said that he had come from Pondicherry to listen to me. I don’t know how he was in Pondicherry. However, he is also a talented actor. His first film was Kalakalappu. I also acted with him in that. When we meet on the set, he always says that we should all be excited. On that set, the three of us, me, Karunakaran and Yogi Babu, would be together. Today, he is too busy to go to the theater to watch the film starring Yogi Babu. He said that Santosham Karunakaran has acted in a hundred films. I wish him many more films.
The cinematographer Karthik Thillai, the editor who worked on this film, are all talented artists.
They said that they wrote the screenplay for this film for three years. That is not all. They did not make it like Titanic or Avatar. Two years of Covid. So they did not meet each other. This is the truth. If you write a screenplay for three years, you should make a film like Avatar or Titanic. This film is not like that. But the plot of this film is by Nalan Kumarsamy. It was wonderful. I am also waiting for his film Soodhu Kavum Dharmam Vellum.
Director Arjunum and I have been friends for a long time. I should have acted in his first film. But due to many reasons, it did not happen. Let us assume that the Tamil film world needs some directors. Arjun has an important place in that list.
