Hello to all of you, journalists and media friends.
Everyone knows that the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, to which I belong, has a close connection with the arts, literature and film industry. But since I entered politics in the 90s, I have not been able to devote much time to cinema. I have participated in some film events with the leader Kalaignar. That’s all.
I am very concerned about whether the film world we saw in our youth, the film world we experienced at that time, and the music that children enjoy today are in two different worlds. He did not take it into consideration.
But love and bravery were intertwined in the lives of Tamils. We grew up reading various references from Dravidian literature and Sangam songs written by Perarigna Anna and leader Kalaignar.
Today’s Chief Minister is the hero of the Dravidian model. Muthuvel Karunanidhi Stalin acted in the film Ore Ratham written by his father Kalaignar. The theme of caste eradication is the main theme in that film. Whenever an idea is imposed on us artificially or naturally, the consequences are many.
I too did not know what the Dravidian movement was, who Periyar, who Anna, who Kalaignar was until I was in 8th grade. I participated in some speech competition. I spoke about what a Tamil teacher had written and won a prize. After that, I became interested in Tamil… Through Periyar, Anna, Kalaignar, I learned about Sangam literature and all the Dravidian characteristics. I was a member of parliament 6 times and a Union minister 3 times. Despite facing the biggest test, I am standing strong enough to resist it. This strength is the art, literature and politics that the Dravidian movement has given me.
In that series, the film ‘Ore Ratham’ starring the Chief Minister made a huge impact.
I asked what the story of this film was… I got the opportunity to see the film’s pre-release. As I mentioned earlier, art, literature, love and bravery are all unique values that Tamils have.
“When the voice of ‘Enkuttan Undhan Magan’ was heard, the mother-in-law suppressed her grief and said, ‘Tiger, I know where you have gone; the battlefield must have gone; “This is the cave where the tiger was,” wrote the Tamil artist, pointing to his stomach. That artist would have said of love, “Climbing is beautiful for men; putting betel leaf juice in his mouth is beautiful for women.”
When I heard the story of ‘A Love That Holds Back’, I was told that it had given me the flow that overcomes all the obstacles that two true lovers face, and that too in a particular part of the world.
Whether it is cinema, art or literature, the Dravidian movement is a movement that wants to bring out the anger and bitterness in society and be a decisive weapon to resolve them.
If we summarize all the love stories in the world, they are two things. I love you or I will continue to love you. This is what all the great literature is for.
If a love story wants to succeed against today’s casteism, politics, economic differences and religious fanaticism, youth is the only reason for it. No; I believe that this film was made with that feeling that there needs to be a maturity and understanding beyond that. I wish such a film to be successful.
