Thanks to the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Mr. M.K. Stalin for issuing a government order reducing the Local Authorities Entertainment Tax (LBET).
There is a critical situation in the Tamil cinema industry with the success of films decreasing to 8 percent. In such a period, 18 percent GST is already being collected on cinema ticket fees. In such a situation, the 8 percent tax called Local Authorities Entertainment Tax (LBET) has been collected only in Tamil Nadu for the last 8 years since 2017. The Tamil Film Current Production Producers Association has been requesting the Tamil Nadu government for many years to remove this.
Keeping in mind the demand of all the associations in Tamil cinema, today the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Mr. M.K. On behalf of Tamil Cinema and the Tamil Film Producers Association, we express our heartfelt gratitude to the Hon. M.P. Stalin, the Deputy Chief Minister, Hon. Mr. Udhayanidhi Stalin, and the Hon. Mr. M.P. Saminathan, the Minister of Information and Publicity of the Government of Tamil Nadu.
With gratitude,
On behalf of the Tamil Film Producers Association,
T.G. Thiagarajan
