“Maanbumigu Parai” – A film that will bring pride to Tamil cinema at world film festivals!
Produced by Sia Productions and directed by debutant director S. Vijay Sukumar, the film “Maanbumigu Parai” made a great debut at one of the world’s leading film festivals, the Cannes Film Festival, in May 2025, receiving praise from the jury members and attracting everyone’s attention internationally.
The film participated again at the World Film Festival held in Cannes and was selected in the Best Social Justice Film category in the Official Selection held this month. The announcement of the winner will be made on November 27.
In addition, it has won an award in the Culture, Heritage and Local Identity category at the Othismos Film Festival held in Italy. The honor of taking the identity of our Parai music to the world belongs to the film “Maanbumigu Parai”.
Produced by Sia Productions Subha & Suresh Ram, with music composed by Thenisai Thentral Deva, the film stars Dindigul Leoni’s son Leo Sivakumar in the lead role.
This is no ordinary story — it is the first Tamil film dedicated to our ancient musical instrument, the parai.
“This is another birth for the parai; not the end, but the beginning…” The parai has been resonating in various moments and cultures of our lives. But this time, the story begins in Europe — specifically France. The film emphasizes how the parai has spread across the borders of our country as a powerful voice across the world.
The parai is not just music — it is an identity, a vibration, a social feeling. “Manbumigu Parai” is an attempt to include us in that vibration.”
