Jaffer Sadiq Issues Clarification Following IT Raids!!
On April 6, 2026, the Chennai residence—along with associated premises—of Jaffer Sadiq (a prominent businessman, Tamil film producer, and former Deputy Organizer of the DMK’s Chennai West District Overseas Wing) was subjected to intensive raids by the Income Tax (IT) Department, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), and the Election Flying Squads.
Addressing these events, as well as the films currently under production by his banner, Mr. Jaffer Sadiq met with members of the press to offer his side of the explanation.
Speaking on the matter, Jaffer Sadiq stated:
“I have come before you today because I felt it necessary to directly address the various pieces of misinformation currently circulating about me. On the morning of the 6th, around 6:00 AM, officials arrived at my residence. The search operation continued until 3:00 AM on the morning of the 8th. They conducted a thorough search of the entire house. I have absolutely no connection to any of the matters they were investigating. Nothing was recovered. Ultimately, they departed after officially recording a ‘Nil Seizure’ report.
Even if they had arrived in connection with election-related funds or any other issues, they left only after confirming that nothing of the sort was found. However, reports subsequently appeared in certain media outlets claiming that thousands of crores of rupees had been seized. This is completely false. Only the actual facts of what transpired should be reported. Fabricating and circulating baseless stories causes us immense distress. I, too, have a family; my children attend school. Such reports have a detrimental impact on them as well.
I had previously received a notice from the IT Department. My auditors and legal counsel had already responded to that notice and were actively engaging with the authorities regarding the matter. I remain puzzled as to why a fresh raid was conducted while that process was still ongoing. I suspect this may have occurred simply because it is the election period. We provided comprehensive answers to every question posed by the officials, and they departed appearing satisfied. Officials from the NCB and the Election Commission also arrived to conduct searches; they, too, left after confirming that nothing incriminating was found. I have concealed nothing. Everything in my possession is held in strict accordance with the law.” Regarding the Delhi case, proceedings are currently underway in court. I am following the case closely, strictly in accordance with the law. My legal team is also overseeing the matter. I wish to state clearly that I have absolutely no connection to this case. The proceedings have been dragging on for two years now; this is a standard judicial process. Once the verdict is delivered, I will share the details with you directly. It is unfair and inappropriate to level accusations against me—particularly involving large sums of money—before the judgment has been pronounced. No illicit substances—not even a single gram—were recovered from any premises associated with me. I am currently not affiliated with any political party; I have stepped away from politics. I have not provided financial assistance to anyone, nor have I distributed money anywhere—be it in Pondicherry or Chennai. My sole focus right now remains on my family, my professional work, and the ongoing legal proceedings. Over the past few days, various government agencies have conducted inquiries involving me. Among them, only the Income Tax Department conducted its operations in a systematic and transparent manner. Other agencies also arrived, conducted their inspections, and departed after confirming that nothing incriminating was found. The only cash present in my home was a sum of approximately ₹40,000, intended solely for ordinary household expenses; there were no large sums of money beyond that amount. I request that you please record and report this fact accurately.
I appeal to you not to disseminate false information. Please do not use me as a pawn or a tool for other agendas. I simply wish to live in peace. I urge you to understand my current situation and refrain from creating unnecessary controversies. I am currently concentrating on my film projects. I look forward to bringing you my upcoming productions—the films Mangai and Iraivan Migaperiyavan—very soon. Thank you.
