The Tamil Film Producers Council has been engaging with the Actors’ Association—both directly and through written correspondence—requesting that, moving forward, actors and technicians agree to work with producers on a “Revenue Share” basis for their remuneration. This appeal stems from the fact that, over the past three years, the fees demanded by leading actors and technical crew members have escalated excessively, currently plunging many producers into financial loss.
In the Hindi film industry, this “Revenue Share” model has been successfully implemented for the past 15 years by leading actors such as Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Akshay Kumar, and Ajay Devgn. A similar practice is also being followed by many leading actors in the Telugu film industry. Consequently, losses incurred by films in these languages have been significantly minimized, creating avenues for producers to recover from financial setbacks and continue producing new films.
However, in the Tamil film industry, if a producer incurs a loss on a film, no leading actor or technician steps forward to assist or rescue them; instead, they prioritize assigning their dates to producers from other linguistic industries, effectively bypassing Tamil film producers. As a result, many producers currently find themselves in a predicament where they are unable to undertake the production of their next film.
To address this situation—and to draw everyone’s attention to the urgent need for change—the Tamil Film Producers Council has announced that a “Token Strike” will be observed today (May 2, 2026). The objective is to insist that leading actors prioritize Tamil film producers and agree to accept remuneration based on the “Revenue Share” model. The Tamil Film Active Producers Association extends its wholehearted support to this initiative. Consequently, no film shoots or post-production activities will take place today.
We extend our sincere gratitude to all associations involved in Tamil film production, as well as to FEFSI and all its affiliated bodies, for extending their cooperation and support to this token strike. We trust that leading actors and technicians, realizing the gravity of this situation, will soon come forward for discussions with the Tamil Film Producers Council and extend their support to help reach an amicable resolution.
With gratitude,
On behalf of the Tamil Film Active Producers Association,
T.G. Thyagarajan
