TN 2026 was a political satire that adored the pre-election period! Likewise, Ramdev’s Makkal Thalaiva is one such well made political satire that punctuates the period, post -elections!
Ravi Maria who debuted as a director through Aasai Aasaiyai (2003) turning into an actor subsequently, has played the protagonist here- that of a common man who turns an actor not by choice but by chance following a similar pattern as a politician who becomes the Chief Minister of the State.
The screenplay dwells deep into the political happenings in our State (Tamilnadu) that holds a busload of similarities to live political figures.
The film has a lot of scenes which tickle one’s funny bones while the fact remains that no where does the maker tries to mock the current set of contemporary politicians despite the fact that those sequences bear a lot of resemblance to real life politicians!
Ravi Maria is impressive as the lead man of the proceedings. The supporting cast too has delivered well.
Karthik S. Nair’s camera has captured the moods of the characters adequately.
An enjoyable political satire.
