‘Production No. 2’—produced by and starring Tamilvanan of Tam’s Consultancy—is directed by Taj, who made his debut with the 2017 film Pongu.
The film portrays the lifestyle and current situation of the people living in the Yelagiri Hills—known as the ‘Princess of Hills’—and authentically depicts the injustices they have faced.
It serves as an emotional voice for these people, illustrating the extent to which communist ideology has influenced their lives.
Although the narrative is set against the backdrop of 2010, its themes remain relevant to marginalized communities across India today—specifically regarding the politics of reservation as it intersects with education and sports. It is particularly pertinent to the political landscape of Tamil Nadu.
The story traces how, despite possessing talent in education and sports, these individuals are denied recognition and identity by the establishment. This film explores how their lives and livelihoods were transformed after they defied the odds and achieved success…
The aim of this work is to openly reflect—on screen—the oppression that lurks in some form within this nation, which prides itself on “unity in diversity”…
