‘Maakaali’ – Presented by Mari Selvaraj and Starring Ameer – Filming Begins with a Traditional Puja!
‘Maakaali’ is the new film presented by Mari Selvaraj, a filmmaker who has garnered attention in Tamil cinema for his unique, socially conscious works. Filming for the project has successfully commenced following a traditional puja ceremony.
The film stars Ameer in the lead role and is written and directed by S.P. Aravind, a former associate director of Mari Selvaraj. ‘Maakaali’ is being crafted as a powerful and impactful film that addresses a significant social issue.
It is jointly produced by K. Karunamoorthy (on behalf of Ayngaran International) and Divya Mari Selvaraj and Mari Selvaraj (on behalf of Navvi Studios).
The film promises to be a moving cinematic experience, built upon a compelling narrative that explores the pain of human existence, boundaries, and deep social concerns.
The recently released official posters set a striking tone: the first shows Ameer walking alone inside the massive skeleton of an animal, while the second features the title ‘Maakaali’ amidst a landscape scattered with animal skeletons. These visuals reveal the film’s dark and profound backdrop, evoking themes of emptiness, destruction, the anguish of nature, and a hidden social reality—thereby generating significant interest and anticipation.
The cast includes Ameer, Swasika, Anishma Anilkumar, Hariharan, Ashwin Ram, and Lenin Bharathi in key roles.
Selvarathinam Pratheepan handles the cinematography, while Selva RK manages the editing and Justin Prabhakaran composes the music. Ramu Thangaraj handles art direction, Dhilip Subbarayan oversees stunt choreography, and Varshini Shankar manages costume design. Suren G and Azhagiya Koothan are in charge of sound design, Kapilan handles publicity design, Jayakumar Vairavan manages photography, and Nagendran oversees makeup. Venkat Arumugam serves as the executive producer, while Sathish acts as the Public Relations Officer (PRO).
