Actress Anumol Extends Support to Female Auto-Rickshaw Drivers
On Vijayadashami, the final day of the Navaratri festival, popular film actress Anumol honored the hard work of fifty female auto-rickshaw drivers—women who work tirelessly, day and night, to improve their families’ economic well-being—by providing them with welfare assistance.
Actress Anumol, who gained recognition among digital-platform audiences through the web series ‘Ayali’, holds a deep-seated belief that “everyone is equal.” Whenever fans approach her for an autograph, she writes the phrase “Always Choose Kindness” alongside her signature. Known for her social consciousness, Anumol continues to capture public attention through such meaningful initiatives.
Recently, when fans met with Anumol, they discussed the idea of honoring women who have achieved financial independence and self-reliance for the sake of their families—a fitting tribute during the Navaratri festival, which celebrates the immense strength of women. Anumol readily agreed to the proposal.
Subsequently, an event was held at the Sri Selva Lakshmi Wedding Hall in Kolathur, Chennai, to distribute the welfare aid. The selected female auto-rickshaw drivers attended the gathering, where Anumol—present as the guest of honor—distributed the assistance and engaged in conversation with them. Speaking on the occasion, actress Anumol said, “Greetings and thanks to all the women present here. Driving an auto-rickshaw is no easy task—working day and night for your families, often in environments where unexpected incidents can occur at any moment. It is truly commendable that you work not only for your families but also to build self-confidence, stand on your own feet, and live with self-respect and a distinct identity.
I believe that everyone is equal. It is essential to ensure that women are economically independent and have access to healthcare and education. It is also vital for women to support one another and live with humanity, free from any form of discrimination. Therefore, if anyone tries to belittle you based on your appearance, skin color, or language, please ignore it with patience and remain steadfast in pursuing your goals. I feel honored to be interacting with you all on this special day.”
Following this, actress Anumol met with each of the female auto-rickshaw drivers, provided them with welfare support, and engaged in detailed conversations about their family circumstances.
Bhavani, a female auto-rickshaw driver who attended the event, said with deep emotion, “Many charitable organizations have helped me in the past. But this is something I will never forget—you took the time to understand our specific needs and provided us with insulated water bottles, high-quality sanitary napkins, power banks, and first-aid kits, while also honoring us with a delicious meal. I love you, Madam!”
