Looks like the adage, success begets success has caught on to the Tamil film industry – The master showman of Tamil Cinema is back as the righteous cop after Darbar and Jailer, yet again!
The opening shot is an extreme close-up of a gun, where the bullets get loaded with a matching background music reminiscent of the Bond movie era.
Vettaiyan – the latest blockbuster with Superstar Rajinikanth, lives up to his name and image.
A well known encounter specialist Athiyan (Rajinikanth) transforms into a new persona in the end.
None can match the super star when it comes to showcasing style as well as substance in performance! He reiterates that fact once more!
Patrick (Fahadh Faasil) a.k.a Battery not only lives up to his inimitable style but is the lively live wire, keeping the tempo going.
A rich coaching company owner with sky high aspirations hoodwinking the poor with a lone teacher who stands up against them to only meet a tragic, gory end, forms the core of the plot. The role played by school teacher Saranya (Dushara Vijayan) is a stellar one and she simply steals the show.
With the songs blended in, costumes all mostly in pastel colours for the super star, the ‘have I heard it before’ BGM, at times, this movie has something for everyone.
T. J. Gnanavel (of Jai Bhim fame) has given an all-in-all mixture with most elements intact. Rarely will one see most of the mainline characters being given equal space when the superstar is around. He has pulled it off quite well here.
Big B as Judge Satyadev asserts his class while his combination sequences with the superstar, steal the thunder!
One striking feature the audience will relish and cherish – Rajini’s make up and his reflexes which are just about intact, still- be it in the songs or in the scenes and sequences.
There is nothing to write home about the music of Anirudh whereas the camera angles of S. R. Kathir warrants mention.
The others in the cast- Rana Daggubati, Manju Warrier, Rithika Singh, Kishore, Rakshan- all cast in key roles, come and go ; editor Philomin Raj could have done more to raise the bar for this highly ambitious casting coup !
Vettaiyan would certainly add another new cap for the superstar for this new age ‘action drama’!
