Surya Sethupathi, son of the multi-lingual actor, Vijay Sethupathi takes off to a brilliant start with Phoenix , a bone-splitting action thriller punctuated by breathtaking action sequences.
Set in a slum kind of backdrop, Surya and his brother are both boxers and they are ambitious of climbing the ladder of success in life as they know that they lack in money power as well as in affluence!
There is also a political network in the neighborhood and Sampath, the sitting MLA of the constituency promises that the winner of the boxing tournament will get a job at the harbour. The underlying factor is that he wants his son to win and would stop at nothing to ensure that he wins!
In the tournament that follows, Surya ‘s brother wins over the MLA’s son but as ill-luck would have it, he gets brutally killed by the henchmen of the MLA.
His girlfriend too is molested and she kills herself!
It is just about time for Surya to rise up to the occasion and he kills the MLA!
More fights follow while Surya is imprisoned.
How he overcomes all the hurdles thrust upon him by his opponents and emerges triumphant at the end is the power packed rest.
Anl Arasu’s stunt choreography is of a very high order reminding the viewers of the stunts on Keanu Reeves’ John Wick series!
