Dr C Sylendra Babu (Retd. DGP/Head of Police), who attended the event, shared:
“Marathons are commonly held in Chennai, but this is the first time a Cyclothon is taking place. Over 500 people are cycling—it’s a great joy. People’s basic need is happiness, and they can find it through cycling. When you participate, you get satisfaction from seeing many places. Those who cycle 50 or 100 kilometres meet many people daily, which brings happiness and excitement to the mind.
Through this, achievements are made at both the national and international levels, so we must definitely support this Cyclothon event. A motorbike is an automatic machine that doesn’t require physical effort. But cycling requires physical strength. Young people should leave their obsession with motorbikes and choose cycling instead. Cycling is the sport that truly keeps you physically fit.
In world countries, Paris has an 1800-kilometre cycling race. London has races over 1000 kilometres. People there are ready for it. In our country, we consider going to the Himalayas by car itself a big achievement. They cycle continuously for three or four days—that shows their determination. In that sense, cycling is better than riding a motorbike.”
