JioHotstar signs MoU with Tamil Nadu government to invest Rs 4,000 crore in South Indian film industry!

With an aim to grow the South Indian media and entertainment sector, JioHotstar has announced that it will invest ₹4,000 crore in the next five years. In this regard, it signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Tamil Nadu government today. The grand event held in Chennai was attended by Honorable Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, Member of Parliament Padma Bhushan Kamal Haasan, Tamil Nadu Information Minister M. P. Saminathan, Mohanlal, Nagarjuna, Vijay Sethupathi, and many other celebrities from the South Indian film world. The agreement was signed under the leadership of Sushant Sriram, SVOD and Chief Marketing Officer of JiohotStar, and Krishnan Kutty, Head of JiohotStar South Entertainment Cluster. This partnership is seen as a major initiative to expand the creative and production ecosystem of Tamil Nadu and take South Indian creators to the global stage.

Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin said that this will not only promote international investment growth but also play a key role in job creation. “This partnership with JioHotstar will create 1,000 direct jobs and 15,000 indirect jobs. The government continues to work towards building a strong economy through cinema,” he said.

At the event, 25 new titles for JioHotstar’s South Indian entertainment division were unveiled. These will include new seasons of popular series, original stories, productions with big stars, reality shows and many more. Popular series like Kerala Crime Files S3, Save the Tigers S3, Good Wife S2 are expected to be available on JioHotStar in 2026. New original works like Cousins ​​and Kalyanams, Lingam, Vikram on Duty, ROSLIN were also announced. Vijay Sethupathi-starrer Kattaan, Nivin Pauly-starrer Pharma, and the South Indian version of the Hindi series Arya, ‘Vishakha’, are also coming next year. Also, while Bigg Boss is being aired continuously in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada, ‘Roadies’ is making its debut in Telugu.

“From now on, films made in Indian languages ​​will not be released on the basis of their respective languages, but as Indian films. Films like Kanthara, Drishyam, are proof of that,” said Kamal Haasan. “The South has always been a hub of creativity,” said Krishnan Kutty. JioHotstar is confident that this initiative, which will bring leading stars including Mohanlal, Nagarjuna, Dhanush, Sivakarthikeyan, Nayanthara, and Samantha, will redefine Indian entertainment.

This partnership, launched with an investment of ₹4,000 crores with the Tamil Nadu government, is expected to provide new opportunities and global expansion to the South Indian film industry and its creators.
