Dhanush’s ‘Kara’ – First Look Released: An Emotional Thriller Set Against the Backdrop of the 90s!!
The first look of the film ‘Kara’, starring National Award-winning actor Dhanush, has been officially released. This first look has received a tremendous response from fans and film enthusiasts.
Produced by Vels Film International Limited on a grand scale, the film is produced by Dr. Ishari K. Ganesh, with his daughter Kushmitha Ganesh serving as the co-producer.
The film is an emotional thriller centered around the events in the life of a young man named ‘Karasamy’ during the 1990s, with a mysterious and suspenseful storyline.
Vignesh Raja, who directed the blockbuster hit film ‘Por Thozhil’, is directing this new film. He has co-written the screenplay with Alfred Prakash. Their successful collaboration continues with this film.
The beautifully and uniquely designed first look simultaneously reveals the film’s grandeur, mood, and narrative depth, promising a thrilling cinematic experience.
In ‘Kara’, Dhanush plays the lead role, paired for the first time with Mamitha Baiju. The film also features K.S. Ravikumar, Jayaram, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Karunas, Prithviraj Rajan, and several other talented actors.
To authentically recreate the 1990s era, elaborate sets were constructed with immense effort, and the scenes were filmed accordingly. The shooting took place for over 80 days in Chennai, Ramanathapuram, and Kovilpatti.
The film’s music is composed by National Award-winning composer G.V. Prakash Kumar, and the cinematography is handled by Theni Eswar, known for his distinctive visual style. Sreejith Sarang, who follows innovative techniques in storytelling, is handling the editing. Mayapandi is in charge of production design, and Dinesh Manohar & Kavya Sriram are working on the costumes.

On the production front, Vels Film International Limited is building a strong film slate for 2026. This includes ‘Mookuthi Amman 2’ (starring Nayanthara), which is currently in the post-production stage. Similarly, ‘Diyangaram’ (starring VJ Siddhu) and ‘UNKILL_123’ (starring Anurag Kashyap) are currently in production.
Furthermore, Vels Music International Limited has acquired all the music rights for the film “Kara.” This has further strengthened the film’s commercial value and promotional aspects.
Currently in the final stages of production, details regarding the teaser, trailer, and audio release of ‘Kara’ will be officially announced soon. The film is scheduled for a theatrical release in the summer of 2026. Meanwhile, Netflix has acquired the OTT streaming rights for the film.
