‘Pichai’ Short Film Praised by Political Leaders!

‘Pichai’ Short Film Shakes the Conscience of Voters!

A short film titled ‘Pichai’ (Beggary) has been produced, earning the praise of political leaders while simultaneously challenging and shaking the conscience of voters.
Directed by C. Mahendran and Sri Jegam, this short film leaves a profound impact on the viewer’s mind within just ten minutes.
It was produced by Vibgyor Studios. Cinematography was handled by Ashok of Sriram Studios, editing by Srishti S. Gautham, and music composition by Jaikishan.

Actor Vibgyor plays the central character—a beggar—in the short film ‘Pichai’.
He previously played the lead villain in the 2024 children’s film Bujji at Anupatti. He also appeared in the film Theemai Ariya Theekuchi, which features Singampuli as the protagonist. Currently, he is acting in two new films, including Vetri Nayagan. Driven by his passion for cinema, he not only acted in this short film but also produced it.

Additionally, J. Jagadeeswari, young actress Samritha, and R.C. Kannan have performed in the film.

This is election season. It has increasingly become a time when every political party competes to engage in the unethical practice of distributing money to voters in exchange for their votes. Furthermore, the public—devoid of any guilt or shame—accepts this money offered for their votes and casts their ballots for whichever candidate they choose. Due to a lack of awareness and a failure to think critically, people commit a grave error: they sell their next five years of well-being for the sake of a mere 2,000 or 3,000 rupees received for their vote. Upon reflection, it becomes clear that what is being handed to them is not a gift, but rather pichai—beggary. This short film was created to challenge this degrading trend and to shake the conscience of the voters. This short film emphasizes the crucial message that everyone must exercise their right to vote, and—equally importantly—that one should never cast a vote in exchange for money.

G.K. Vasan, President of the Tamil Maanila Congress, released the short film and offered his commendation and best wishes, stating, “This is a short film with a wonderful message. It needs to reach every single voter.” K.A. Sengottaiyan—a prominent figure in the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam and a former minister—also watched the film and praised it, remarking, “This is a film with a valuable theme; it must be taken to the masses.”

Many others have similarly watched the film and offered their appreciation. The film’s production team believes that if voters watch this short film before heading out to cast their ballots, it will trigger a momentary, yet significant, shift in their mindset.
