‘Kaalidas 2’ at the Shanghai International Film Festival – Another feather in the cap for Tamil cinema!
‘Kaalidas 2’ makes its mark at Asia’s largest film festival…
Following the success of ‘Kaalidas’—acclaimed as one of Tamil cinema’s quality thrillers—its sequel, ‘Kaalidas 2’, has now garnered significant international recognition. ‘Kaalidas 2’ was selected as one of the seven Indian films screened at the 28th Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF 2026), regarded as Asia’s largest film festival.
While the festival took place in Shanghai, China, from June 12 to 21, special screenings continued at various theaters across the city until June 28. Attracting filmmakers, producers, distributors, critics, and cinema enthusiasts from around the globe, the festival showcased a record-breaking seven films from India. The fact that ‘Kaalidas 2’ was the sole representative from South India among them has brought pride to the film’s crew and the Tamil film industry.
Sri Senthil directed both the first and second installments of the ‘Kaalidas’ franchise. The film stars Bharath as the lead, with Ajay Karthik playing a pivotal role. Additionally, Sangeetha, Bhavani Sre, and Aparnithi feature in significant roles.
Sam C.S. composed the music for the film. Suresh Bala handled the cinematography, while Bhuvan Srinivasan managed the editing. Aravind Anand contributed to the screenplay.
The film was jointly produced by distributor-producer ‘Five Star’ Senthil and Dr. N. Yogeswaran under the banner of Sky Pictures. The film ‘Kaalidas 2’ was released in theaters and garnered immense praise from both audiences and critics.
Its screening at an international film festival is viewed as significant recognition of the film’s artistic merit and technical quality. This achievement, which has captured the attention of global cinema enthusiasts, marks yet another important milestone in Tamil cinema’s journey on the world stage.
