Launch Ceremony of ‘The Carrom Queen’, the biopic of the International Carrom Champion from Chennai
The life story of Kajima, a young woman from North Chennai who won the 6th International Carrom Championship held in California, USA, and brought glory to India on the world stage, is one filled with immense struggle.
Born into a very ordinary family, the daughter of an auto-rickshaw driver, Kajima learned the game of carrom, her father’s passion, with the help of her brother, and overcame her impoverished circumstances by winning an international sports competition.
A production company from Karnataka came forward to produce a film to bring her inspiring story of struggle and triumph to the world. This biopic based on Kajima’s life story, titled ‘The Carrom Queen’, had its grand launch ceremony with a puja today. Actress Randhya Bhoomesh plays the role of Kajima in the film.
The real-life Carrom Queen, Kajima, attended the event with her family.
Kali Venkat, who plays a key role in the film, said: “Hello everyone. The story of this film is very interesting. The entire story is very emotional. Everyone who watches the film will surely shed tears. It’s such a powerful story. I will talk more after the film’s release.”
Producer Nagesh Patil of Nihan Entertainments said: “I am from Bellary district. I am involved in several businesses. I had a desire to produce a film in Tamil. When Kajima’s story was narrated to me, the pain and the victory moved me, and I myself took up the story and have now become a producer. I aspire to continue making films in Tamil.”
Director Murali said: “Although I have directed films before, this film is very special to me. When I approached the producer with a good true story to make into a film, he immediately gave an advance and agreed to produce the film. Similarly, Kajima’s family also gave their full support in developing the story and screenplay.” Now, while speaking on stage, Kajima’s father became emotional and couldn’t speak, his eyes welling up with tears. It’s true, the film will be so moving that everyone who watches it will be moved to tears. I will speak more after the film is released.
When the real Carrom Queen, Kajima, spoke, she said: “I have come to this position from a struggling family. My father and family are the reason for this. When I was struggling to find money to participate in sports competitions, my father would drive his auto-rickshaw day and night to earn the money to take me to the competitions. Today, through this success, I have overcome our hardships and bought a house for my father. If we encourage all women and nurture their talents, everyone can achieve success. We must continue our efforts without giving up.”
Actress and squash player Komal Sharma said: “When I heard the story of Carrom Queen, it reflected my own life. The reason is that many of the experiences I had in squash are definitely familiar to every sportsperson. In that sense, I wish this Carrom Queen film great success.”
Special guests including producer S.K. Pictures Sampath, Sheela Ilangovan, and Saurabh M. Pandey, the writer of ‘The Kashmir Files’, were among those present.
