‘The Dark Heaven’: A Crime Thriller Rivaling Malayalam Cinema
‘The Dark Heaven’ is a gripping crime thriller set against the backdrop of the Kurinji landscape—a mountainous region. Centered on a series of mysterious murders in the hill village of Makerre, the film is set for a worldwide release on July 17.
Myth-based stories passed down through generations hold a unique allure and often remain topics of conversation long after their origins. ‘The Dark Heaven’ is a crime thriller crafted around one such piece of local folklore. The film follows a police officer investigating a series of murders that occur in a mountain village every seven years during the month of June. Speaking about the film, Director Balaji said:
“Tamil audiences have always greatly enjoyed crime thrillers, especially those with unique storylines. ‘The Dark Heaven’ has been crafted to meet their expectations and preferences.
What is the story about?
While a series of murders is taking place, the police are unable to find any clues. Amidst this situation, Inspector Pari, a newcomer to the town, begins his investigation. The film centers on whether he manages to identify the killer. The screenplay has been meticulously crafted to ensure a fast-paced and gripping narrative.
Sidhu Sidh, who rose to fame through the series ‘Raja Rani’, plays the lead role, while ‘Bigg Boss’ fame Dharshika plays the female lead. The cast also includes Riythvika, Nizhalgal Ravi, Vela Ramamoorthy, Jayakumar Janakiraman, Arul Shankar, Pradeep, Alex, and Danny Dayal. Chaplin Balu, previously known for comedic roles, takes on a completely different character here, marking a fresh start for him.
Regarding the technical crew:
Manikandan PK, who worked on my debut film, serves as the cinematographer here as well. Raja Arumugam has handled the editing, and Sakthi Balaji—who worked on the film ‘Jackie’—has composed the music. They are all my friends who have poured their talent and hard work into this project.
Filming took place in challenging, hilly terrains such as Vandiperiyar, Achankovil, Thenmala, Yercaud, Pathukani, Tenkasi, and Mukkoodal; the shoot is now complete. Dubbing and final post-production work are currently underway.” …has been completed and submitted for censorship.
The film’s trailer launch event is scheduled for June 25th.
