Water supply for the ’58 Canal’ irrigation project must be released starting from the 58-foot level…

Petition submitted seeking a permanent Government Order for the ’58 Canal’ agricultural irrigation project in Usilampatti constituency

A petition was submitted to the Hon’ble Minister for Water Resources, Thiru N. Anand, in the presence of Usilampatti MLA Thiru Vijay. The petition urged the government to issue a permanent Government Order (G.O.) to implement the practice of releasing surplus water for the ’58 Canal’ agricultural irrigation project (Usilampatti constituency) starting from the 58-foot water level, rather than the 67-foot level.

Additionally, petitions regarding this matter were submitted to the Hon’ble Minister for Public Works, Thiru Aadav Arjuna, and to Thiru C.T.R. Nirmal Kumar, the Minister in-charge of Madurai and Theni districts.

The request calls for the issuance of a Government Order to permanently establish the practice of releasing water for irrigation starting from the 58-foot level—instead of the 67-foot level—in the interest of the farmers benefiting from the ’58 Canal’ project.

It is expected that this measure will provide reliable irrigation facilities to farmers in the Usilampatti constituency and surrounding areas, thereby boosting agricultural production and improving the farmers’ livelihoods
